1. The machine spits back out your ballot if the judge didn't initial it.
How do I know this? It happened to me last week when I voted in the Illinois primary. I was so careful to fill out everything exactly, and checked that I had not connected more than one arrow in a race. It was hard, because I had filled in all the dozens of judge races, and every race down to state central committee. It was a very long ballot.

When I fed my ballot into the machine, it came right back out. Oh noes, I thought, I made a mistake and don't want to do this all over again! But the fellow tending the machine immediately told me the judge had neglected to sign it. He handed it over to the election judge, who quickly initialed it, and it went right through this time.

You dont have to sign in to post comments and he's really good about replying too.
It would help educate other people who read his blog.
