Indiana GOP Sec of State Help Stopped Florida Recount
Indiana GOP Sec of State Help Stopped Florida Recount
By Zachary Roth - October 28, 2008 - http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/10/india...

Yesterday we told you about an effort by Indiana's Republican secretary of state, Todd Rokita, to press federal and state authorities to prosecute ACORN for voter fraud. Rokita had said a review by his office of forms submitted by ACORN found "multiple criminal violations."

But it turns out that Rokita hardly as a reputation as a non-partisan public official. In October 2002, the South Bend Tribune reported (via nexis):

Working on his own time, also assisted George W. Bush's campaign during the infamous Florida election recount in 2000. Rokita is proud of that, especially because the U.S. Supreme Court cited Indiana election law when it decided the election in Bush's favor.

In other words, Rokita was part of the team of ambitious young Republican operatives who flew down to Florida to help out on a bid to stymie the recount effort ....

That background as a partisan knife-fighter is worth keeping in mind as Rokita seeks to stoke fears about voter fraud -- and, more generally, as he administers what could be very close election in Indiana.

1. Good one
Indiana also has one of the most restrictive--if not THE most restrictive--voter ID laws in the US. Earlier today, my daughter tried to help a friend with special needs get registered. Even though he could produce a birth certificate, he couldn't get registered because he doesn't have a bank account, a driver's license or a credit card.

Cold, very cold.

And Rokita's actions in the ACORN case are so partisan it's ridiculous. He's grandstanding and hoping it will help him be the next Governor or Senator in elections to come.

Scumbag.

3. How do these fascist fuckers keep getting elected? Are the Democrats hiding in caves in Indiana?

5. Not suprising given Indiana's voter suppression
Chief among the barriers to voting in Indiana is the GOVERNMENT ISSUED photo ID law. Republicans tried to get early voting shutdown in Lake County to no avail. Looks like Rokita is trying to live up to his hero Katherine Harris.
