The Obama voter purge is in progress. Republicans are telegraphing their plan.

The meme is that ACORN is registering new voters in swing states and this organization can't be trusted. Given their "history of voter fraud" Republicans will challenge and purge voters in numerous swing states.

NEWSMAX

Both Rudman and Danforth voiced concern that there is or may be a pattern of registering people who are not entitled to vote, noting that of particular concern is an organization called The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN).

“We are concerned that ACORN has been connected with Senator Obama and that he has ties to it,” said Danforth. “He directed something called Project Vote; he taught classes for future leaders that are identified by ACORN; and he has represented ACORN in court in a lawsuit against the state of Illinois. ACORN’s political action committee has endorsed Senator Obama.”

Danforth expressed alarm that ACORN has been bringing in large numbers of names, many who are not qualified to vote, and the practice may be “gumming” up the system. He added that after the enactment of the Help America Vote Act in 2002, there has been a requirement for statewide computerization of registered voters and that the local overseers may become overwhelmed by the sheer numbers being put forth by ACORN.

Of course this is just a BS excuse to try and purge legitimate voters from the rolls and steal another election. The polls don't show Obama ahead because of "fake" registered voters.

More from CBS

"Officials are making tons of errors, and voters aren't given a chance to correct the errors," he said.

Waldman also says some voters will show up on Nov. 4 who are supposed to be registered to vote and will be told they are not listed that way. If that happens, he says, “don't take 'no' for an answer. Cast a provisional ballot and call a voter hotline.”

The numbers of purges that occurred are hard to uncover and often are not known until after an election. But, the report cites several controversial purges this year so far.

For example, in Muscogee County in Georgia, the report says, a county official purged 700 people from voter lists for criminal convictions. Many of the people who received letters informing them of the purge, however, had never even received a parking ticket. In Mississippi, a local election official recently discovered that another official had wrongly purged 10,000 voters “from her home computer.”

The reasons for wrongly purging eligible voters ranges from clerical errors to mistakes in matching names, addresses and criminal histories. Waldman says there’s a “huge potential for partisan mischief" and manipulation.

Another study, by the group U.S. PIRG, released last week, also looked at the issue of voter purging and discovered that 19 states are ignoring a federal law banning systematic purges within 90 days of a federal election. The 19 states include battleground states of Colorado, Ohio and Nevada.

What are we doing about this?

1. Greg Palast and RFK Jr. are trying to get the word out ...
We have to STEAL BACK OUR VOTES. I almost got purged before
the primary (but got myself put back on "active" status in time
to vote) and have been checking with the Country Registrar every
month or so since then to ensure that I'm eligible to vote.
I'd recommend that every DUer do the same -- no surprises on
November 4!

3. I think Obama and the DNC need to get attorneys to these states ASAP
and challenge the violation of federal law?

4. Amazing that this ACORN story got such quick legs so damned
Edited on Thu Oct-09-08 03:42 PM by lazyriver
easily when thousands of people have been screaming about election fraud for almost a decade now due to caging, purging, electronic voodoo voting machines, etc. and the media, almost the entire media completely ignored it.

Edited to change "dozens" to thousands.

5. And it's especially absurd given EVERY major poll shows a legitimate
and sizable lead by Obama over McGrumpy.

8. It didn't take Lou Dobbs long to jump on it either....
The "Quick Vote" topic on his web page today is....

"Are you concerned that radical left-wing activist groups are trying to manipulate the outcome of this presidential election?"

Like....Have you stopped beating your wife yet?

Wonder how much research Lou has done?

9. Instead of waiting until election day, if you've still got time to register in your state DO SO NOW
I reregistered for the primary because I had moved since the last election. They've already purged me! We have same day registration here in Wisconsin but I'm not taking any chances, I'm going to go reregister tomorrow so that I won't have to dick around on election day when there are going to be lines. Also, I know that here in my city the public library has had pollworkers present all week to accept voter registrations. So check on the rules in your municipality. If it's not too late register NOW. And when you go to vote on election day make sure you bring ID (even if it's not required) just in case you are challenged. Fuck the GOP and their attempt to disenfranchise, don't let them take away your rights!

10. Stupid AP ran with that this afternoon
"allocations of massive voter fraud"

Arrrggh.

When you can't win - cheat. They can't stand the idea of all these new voters, so they'll challenge every one they can

12. Galloglas' (talking now) arrest
was in the only county in Missouri where this huge "registration fraud" was claimed by any "official".

Charlene Davis, the GOP election Director of Jackson County (the portion outside of Kansas City) was the person interviewed by Fox News yesterday. It was the source of the Missouri allegation. In fact, the ONLY one!

She tells Fox News on Wednesday afternoon that she has 250 up to 800 fraudulent registrations. This after we at the Election Protection Coalition, headed by the Advancement Project, asked her as of Monday and she said "less than 100". And of those, "only three" were really questionable.

This had to have been set up months in advance. Probably the reason for the insanely over-the-top treatment of myself and my son in August. She had a watchdog in her backyard (I chair Show Me The Vote!!)and she had to clear the decks and take Show Me The Vote!! out of action (y'know, break the quarterback's leg, bean the batter, etc.)

That will be easier said than done. And I will be back in a few days with the details of the next round.

Meantime, for those who missed it in August, here is one of the main threads.

13. It's simple, Repubs are planning on fixed the election again!
This is a banana republic. Something must be done, but Repubs have gotten away with this since 2000, they are used to Dems not doing anything about it.
