WTF: "Toggle switch glitch likely caused some ballots to be counted twice"

By CAROL ROBIDOUX
Union Leader Staff

3/16/06

Grafton – No matter how you do the math, 193 “yeas” plus 198 “nays” don’t add up to 369 votes.

McDow, who is trained to operate the voting machine, said she learned more after placing a call yesterday to LHS Associates of Methuen, Mass., the company that services the town’s Accu-Vote machine.

“They told me one of the dip switches let go, or the problem had to do with one of the dip switches not being set — that’s what LHS told me after I read them the information from the tally sheet,” McDow said.

The toggle switch glitch likely caused some ballots to be counted twice, McDow said.

“It’s really crazy. Now we will just have to wait and find out for sure,” she said.

3. I have a problem with these damn voting machines
Edited on Sat Jan-12-08 01:00 AM by FREEWILL56
and we need to get back to more reliable ways of counting the vote. What is evident in the OP is proof from the manufacturer as to their unreliability even when not being programmed in a biased way that is always officially denied. Voting is a straight foreward simple thing and not difficult and so my question is, why can't we seem to add them up right? It was engineered that way by design it would seem. I base my opinion on the old mechanical lever machines we had recently just gotten rid of and seeing more troubles from this new corruptable junk than I've seen from the previous 30 years of the old lever machines.
Seems some hillary supporters think bad machines are only good when it supports their candidate. It isn't about hillary so please defocus as a recount would confirm her win wouldn't it? Well, wouldn't it?

4. That article is nearly two years old.
Do you have any information showing that it is still a problem now?

5. or any information showing it was fixed. bradblog has an article from yesterday
about colorado

It appears that Hart Intercivic has admitted that the optical-scan tabulators certified by the state of Colorado and used in that state show a significant error rate when a ballot has stray marks. This was mentioned, and nearly lost, in an article in today’s Denver Post. The vendor has offered a software upgrade to Colorado and they think that upgrade MAY fix the problem. In the mean time counties across the country may be using these same machines with no knowledge of a problem and no knowledge that Hart is providing an upgrade to one state while ignoring theirs....

7. It's more that I don't have any information showing that it isn't still a problem.
The NASED Qualified Voting Systems document shows the most recent AccuVote-OS Precinct Count update was the Firmware 1.96.6 certified in 2005.

It's just among the many problems leaving electronic voting open to error or tampering.

9. New Hampshire, LHS, and clueless employee...
seems relevant to me.

They've got dip switches in charge of the dip switches.
