Your comments about HBO's Hacking Democracy

How about a thread on tonight's airing of Hacking Democracy, particularly we'd love to hear from those who saw it! As originator of this thread I ask for no B-Bashing.

One question I have in particular, is how you think the movie will affect the "average joe" ?

I think most of us know all this stuff, but it's great that this is getting aired to the general public. I remember very well when Bev was going thru the garbage and getting those tapes..and when she broke into the retirement dinner. Too bad she has those personality problems..but the work she (and of course Andy) did is incredibly important.

2. Oh man, garybeck sorry to hear that. I am really grateful for

HBO lately... Bill Maher, the Katrina special and now this.

It was excellent. Actually parts of it were familiar, like some video that came out shortly after the debacle in 2004 they called an "election." It was very emotional for me, you know, like flashbacks to the 3% "random" recount in Ohio that wasn't random, or that horrible, horrible day that Kerry conceded (I still don't understand why)...you know all these memories, the protests, lots of difficult memories.

Anyway, the substance of it was really good and it was thorough too.

I hope they will release it on DVD soon.

4. Yes, with a video tape and all the "officials" are saying how

great things are going while those working to recount are talking about the stacks of ballots not being random, but "arranged somehow" as if they were "presorted."

Then when the "officials" are called on this lack of random issue, they say well, "it's our random."

11. the white stickers that at least 4 witnesses saw, on the ballots

during the recount in clermont county OH. they were stickers covering the ovals on the Kerry votes, which makes the opscan not read the vote. there's a sworn affidavit here:

7. Plus, they actually video tape a test of the actual machinery in FL

with computer scientists and Ion Sancho and Bev Harris and that lady who ran in Louisiana and discovered when she touched her name on the screen her opponent's name came up.

They actually showed how the memory card could alter the vote. Which later was confirmed by like 16 other computer scientis big whigs here in the USA.

18. Another point they made crystal clear was changes in votes are

not traceable. If the vote is altered there is no trail, no tracks to follow. Why is that they asked?

To the average person it will make hero of Bev. i wish it didn't but I think the film would have been very disjointed if it gave equal time to all the players involved. It did made the issues easy to understand.

Or, ask someone to make you a tape so you can see it.

If you've been following along at home VERY closely, not much will surprise you in there. But, I think it's just really fun to see US, citizens, kicking butts and taking names. And, seeing Andy Stephenson was great.
