| CALM DOWN PEOPLE!!! CALM DOWN!!! |
 |
Why is it that there are a bunch of us w/the doom and gloom attitude? I came in relaxed, but I expected a tough fight. Yet from reading from all these "panicking" DUers, I am catching some that too. STOP STOP STOP. PLEASE STOP............... OH is not called yet, nor is Florida. We will win PA and NH, and probably MI, WI and MN. So why don't everyone just relax and calm down. I talked to a friend of mine, and she nearly went bonkers over what is going on w/the elections and started shouting in the phone. Please. We don't need that right now.

We also don't need to bury our heads in the sand if things aren't looking good. I'm not saying that things aren't looking good just yet, but we have to be realistic.

You would think since ALL of us know that the media is slanted to the right that they would do the same for the election.

 |
The more they can get Democrats demoralized, the less of them will vote on the West Coast. But, in 15 minutes, polls close over most of the West Coast too.
We may still lose, but don't give up the farm just yet. Yes, it looks bad, IF YOU LISTEN TO THE NETWORKS. So far, as many have pointed out, we haven't lost anything that wasn't expected.

| 30. I think there are a lot of relatively new DUers who simply | |
 |
don't understand the whole election process. We've seen a lot of posts from people who clearly haven't familiarized themselves with the details of % precincts vs. % voters, etc. They see a single precinct counted in a state and immediately post "KERRY LEADS 62-37 IN XX!!!!" And then when a few more precincts come in and the tally changes, they get panicky.
Also, we have a lot of people starting new threads when there are already fifteen on the same subject, so it's difficult to track the evolution of a particular state's count. To muddy the waters, they'll post FL results in a thread on OH or PA.
I refuse to watch television, so I made the HUGE mistake of coming here to DU to follow the returns. The early posts of exit polls made things look like the proverbial cakewalk -- no thanks to folks like Lou Dobbs, whom I can't stand anyway -- and when the cakewalk didn't materialize, everyone got thrown into a tizzy. Panic, like any mob emotion, can become contagious. And when you throw in a bunch of probably well-practiced trolls, it is only worse.
There seems to be a dearth of posts by the long-time and more knowledgeable DUers and a plethora of posts and threads from relative newbies. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

it's encouraging to see Kerry's numbers increase as we wait. Regardless of what happens, it cannot change the law of cause and effect. Every cause has an effect, and every effect can be a cause. Not that I wish to cause you to in effect vote differently, or wish you to effect any of my causes.

 |
of course I know that. In my head--guess I haven't become SURE of it. OK, Fizz, Breathe. Even if the effect doesn't come when we WANT, its there, just not manifest yet.
This is the teaching I practice. But right now, my stomach is just ready to fly up my throat and I'm having a hard time staying calm.

People are nervous. Soothe, don't command.
We have won. They're dragging their feet and refusing to admit Kerry's the projected winner, but we will be victorious in the end.
We do have to stay with it. We can't give up like last time.
