What does Judy Miller have to do with Bush's reelection?

Four More Years -- Courtesy of Judy Miller

Among the many facts that we learned from Patrick Fitzgerald's press conference, one of the most dramatic came in response to a question about whether it was "worth keeping Judy Miller in jail for 85 days?": "I would have wished nothing better," Fitzgerald replied, "than, when the subpoenas were issued in August 2004, witnesses testified then.

We would have been here in October 2004 instead of October 2005. No one would have to jail."

Hmmm, October 2004. That was right before November 2004.

Does anyone doubt that if Patrick Fitzgerald had held a press conference announcing five indictments against a key member of the Bush administration just before the last election it would have affected the outcome? Would the two men whose lies Libby was ultimately lying to cover up have been re-elected?

reelection

Reelection is when someone runs for election after already being elected once, and already having served out their first term. Presidents run for reelection once, four years after being elected for the first time. Senators run for reelection six years after being elected for the first time, although some states do not let their Senators run for reelection.

re-election used in news articles, too: http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&lr=&c2coff=1&rls=GGLD%2CGGLD%3A2004-32%2CGGLD%3Aen&tab=wn&ie=UTF-8&scoring=d&q=re-election

If it bothers you too much, I'll change it. :)

7. Not only that, how can ANYONE be elected if we don't have real elections?

Take away people's rights to vote: no democracy.

Suppress the vote: no real election of We the People.

Institute secret vote counting on electronic machines, making ballots invisibly changeable: no verifiable democracy.

Come to think of it, debating whether or not someone was elected begs the question of whether we had an Election. This is a valid question, unless you want to call Saddam-style riggings "elections" as well the subtler forms of rigged votes of "confidence".
