If the votes were rigged, * knew about it ahead of time
When it became apparent that Kerry would take PA and OH, and most likely the presidency, * suddenly started inviting Democrats to join his campaign in his stump speeches.

At the time I thought it was truly an act of desperation; in retrospect I believe it was to pave the way for rationalizing the Democrat votes that would "miraculously" go to him on November 2.

We were prepared for voter repression (how clever of Rove&Co to keep us busy with last election's methods) but not for the padding of the votes that stole the election this time.

We cannot allow this election's results to pass unchallenged!

1. My sentiments exactly.
You have captured the essence of what the repugs do. They distract, they deceive, but all in the name of perception manipulation, so that we don't even know who we voted for, or what we think. ugly....

6. Bush had four long years
Four years to figure out a strategy for Florida and other critical states. Kerry had four months.

Kerry didn't have much to work with, the Dems spend much of the past four years in a state of confusion.

11. Ya know.......
People keep on saying things like that, as if Kerry lost, when we are all aware now that Kerry actually won, according to the exit polls. This kind of talk is discouraging when we're trying like hell to rally people around our lost votes.

Not bashing you! ;-)

12. I don't think he knew until election day
I'm not a freeper so hear me out. Assuming there was a fix (and until I hear a reasonable explanation as to why the exit polls were so off, it is a believable assumption), I think almost no one knew of it, including *, because they had to keep it secret. In addition, his advisors and team believed they were going to lose in the days leading up to the election - the press corp reports stated that there was a nostalgic feel on the final day of campaigning and that there was clearly the impression that there was not going to be a second term. Also, his advisors told him on election day that he was probably going to lose. If they knew in advance, they would have been a lot more cocky, because it would have been in his interest to act that way. There was only one person that was seemingly not worried by the exit polls (and this same person probably advised him to reach out to democrats) - everyone else was very worried.

13. One does get the idea he knows very little.
They just tell him enough to play his part; maybe he even thinks he's in charge.

14. I think he knew or at least Rove did. Here are odd coincidences:
I know hindsight is 20/20. But, if the voting irregularities are proven, do you think Bush/Cheney will claim their innoncence? Did they know fraud was going to happen? When I remember back to the last week of the election 2 things struck me as odd:
1. Do you remember Bush, in the last days of the election, suddenly preaching to Democrats to cross over and vote for him? I remember LOL as I conjered up the image of Bush, as Darth Vader, asking Luke to cross over to the dark side. Yet, in all seriousness, I was perplexed. The repugs, throughout the election, were focusing only on their base. And in the last days of the election all polls pretty much showed the majority of voters were entrenched in their viewpoint. So why did they switch gears suddenly? The media's take on this sudden "preaching to Democrats" was that the Repugs may be worried that their base wasn't large enough and they needed to find more votes fast. However, could it have been that they knew they were going to need to explain why so many registered Democrats suddenly voted overwhelmly Republican?

2. Do you remember one of Cheney's interviews the week before the election? He was asked a general question on the outcome of the election. Instead of giving a general response that he was going to win he said "51, 48, Bush, Kerry". Boy, what a coincidence that they ended up getting 51%. Isn't 51% what they needed to be thought of as a legitimate administration? I guess when you set your goals high enough, miracles do happen!

17. You're onto something there, maybe. It's the way Rove operates by
covering their tracks by getting ahead of an issue. If polls showed that Democrats decided to vote for Bush it's because Bush persuaded them to in the last days of the election.

It would cover their tracks by allowing the media to say "Dixie Crats" in Florida voted for him, or that in other states where Democratic areas seemed to go for Bush....

It's Rove's Pre-emptive Strike and it's always worked before. I, too had wondered why he was wasting his time with silly speeches urging Dems to vote for him...Jeeze everytime something seems a little "odd" it turns out to be a Tactic...

20. It's also odd that * was "preaching to democrats" when
all of his campaign speeches were for an republican audience. Didn't they have to sign an oath in order to attend?

So we were all supposed to just believe that even though everyone was completely polarized and entrenched in their choice for president by that time, when li'l ol' Bushie-boy asked for us to switch, by gum we just up and switched, just to please him.

Riiiight.

24. Welcome to DU Midwest Voter! If you're referring to Cheney's
interview with a Jamie something or other I remember quite clearly he said 52-47 Bush Kerry. Maybe you saw a different interview or more likely I'm just getting senile :-). Anyway the Dickmeister certainly seemed to have those numbers on the tip of his evil tongue didn't he?!?

My addition to your odd coincidences isn't really a coincidence but a question I want answers to. Why did Bush travel to Columbus OH on election day? Who did he meet with? Blackwell? Wally Dell of DIEbold? Who else was with him (Rove, Cheney,...?!?)
