ES&S booth at the California Democratic State Convention?
Edited on Thu Apr-21-05 10:56 PM by shance
I went to the California Democratic State convention last weekend, and as I was walking through the booth area browsing and talking to different vendors, when I saw a booth being taken up by Election Systems and Software.

Most of you have probably heard of the voting machine company that has for a large part flown under the radar of Diebold's neon publicity. Here are some of the reasons ES&S being at the Democratic convention is perplexing and concerning to me and should be to other California Democrats.

Elections System and Software is the largest Republican owned voting machine company started by Todd Urovich, brother of Bob Urovich, founder of Diebold.

<< ES&S claims that they tabulated "56% of the U.S. national vote for the past four presidential elections." source: http://www.essvote.com/

Here is information about ES&S and Republican Senator Chuck Hagel's connection with the company.

http://liberty.hypermart.net/Newsletter/3/4_The_2004_Election_Has_Already_Been_Rigged.htm

<< This wasn’t the first Republican victory involving “Election Systems & Software” (ES&S). Former right wing radio talk-show host and CEO of ES&S, Chuck Hagel, decided he would run for the U.S. Senate in Nebraska with his own ES&S machines counting the votes. Hagel failed to mention that he had been both CEO and Chairman of ES&S on his disclosure documents, or that he was an owner in the company that installed, programmed, and operated the voting machines used by most of the citizens of Nebraska. In 1996, Republican Hagel won the race in Democratic Nebraska for the U.S. Senate easily carrying both the primary and general elections. According to Bev Harris of blackboxvoting.com, Hagel scored lopsided victories in almost every demographic group, including Black communities that had never voted for a Republican. With the widest margin of victory in state history Hagel became the first Republican in 24 years to win a Senate seat in Nebraska. On November 5, 2002 Hagel ran against Democrat Charlie Matulka and was re-elected to his second term in the United States Senate by an unreal 83% of the vote. Again, the votes were counted by computer-controlled voting machines built programmed and installed by Hagel’s company Election Systems & Software. "

Ownership: The World Companies (a wholly owned subsidiary of the Omaha World-Herald Company), The McCarthy Group (an Omaha investment banking company - whose primary investor is World Investments, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Omaha World-Herald Co.), Business Records Corp. (BRC), and American Information Systems (AIS) employees. source:http://www.talion.com/election-machines.html

I think the Democrats of California deserve a valid explanation as why Elections System and Software was present in the halls of the Democratic State Convention in Los Angeles last weekend.

If you are a Californian, please contact Art Torres of the California Democratic Party and ask him what business did Election Systems and Software have at our State Convention?

His number is (916)442-5707
Fax: (916)442-5715

Thanks,

Connie

3. That is shocking!
I also heard reports by attendees that hardly any Dems wanted to talk about election protection and that it was not on the official agenda.

4. Yes, there was no hearing/referendum/town hall on election reform.
Alot of people were not happy about that.

THE most important core issue regarding our rights and voice as Americans and nothing was addressed at our state convention,

Needless to say seeing the ES&S booth, was insult to injury.

When we are looking at the prospect of California going red, nothing is being discussed at the State Democratic Convention, we have a problem with those in leadership who are not doing their jobs.

'girls' or women. I'm sure they were just doing what they were paid to do.

However you pose a good question, which is what we would like to know.

Why was ES&S allowed to have a booth?

Not to mention in view of the fact it was mentioned to me by another Dem and know it to be true, a friend of theirs who had already purchased a booth was later informed there was a mistake and they would be unable to provide a booth during the Convention.

This most probably was nothing more than an oversight. However, it seems they could have done more to accomodate the individual, it was not good organization or business and overall it could have been dealt with in a better fashion.

There are certainly going to be problems with any large gathering or convention to be sure, however I think these are questions that deserve better explanation.
