The Backbone of the Democratic Party
Kerry,Clinton,Bayh,Edwards, and Obama in my opinion are the backbone of the Democratic Party right now alongside Chairman Dean. Kerry and Clinton I BELIEVE- are gonna have an interesting duel for the nomination this time around and somewhere down the road I believe Bayh and Edwards and Obama will be at it for the nomination. I also believe Gen. Clark will make history somewhere along the way, and that Gov. Dean will take the Democratic Party to unprecedented heights.

I truly believe if we wanted to be completely safe Hillary should get the nomination because theres not a question in my mind she would win. Everyone wants to see a female President in their lifetime and are so eager to make history. Yet then again we have Sen. Kerry whom most-and I say most- of the Democratic Party fell in love with-with a compiled e-mail list of 3 million voters and $51 million in a war chest for his next run for office.

While I too would like to see a woman President someday before I die, I dont believe the time is now-my personal pick for 2008 in which I will be a first time voter is:

Kerry/Clinton
2008

I also believe the Republican base is scrambling right now to find a viable candidate for 2008. I saw in another post a fellow DUer saying the Republican base is so much bigger than ours-but its not. Right now the have only a handful of electable candidates that aren't even that popular, John McCain who let us not forget ran an unsuccessful attempt in 2000-he didn't even get the nomination, lets here him trash Kerry on dual runs- and also Rudy Guliana the hero of 9/11 and the leader of the new generation. As great as he is I don't think hes electable, his credits include the following-Mayor- and let us not forget Guliana has been called Liberal by his own base, he has no southern appeal and very little experience in foreign policy-Lets here him call Kerry a liberal now.

2. Agree with 1/2 of what you say. & Welcome to DU !!!

That 1/2 is the problems with the Republican nomination. On one side, you have high appeal/name recognition candidates McCain and Guliani. They are both unacceptable to the Social Conservatives, McCain out of their habit to oppose and Guliani because of his unacceptable (to them) personal life. McCain has additional problems in that he's a hypocrite on campaign contributions and Guliani has the Bernard Kerik association and the opposition of New York City voters. On the other side, you have Frist, corporate fat cat (and cat killer). He is a man without much appeal, an "empty shirt."

You say Kerry,Clinton,Bayh,Edwards, and Obama are the Democratic backbone. I beg to differ. The first three supported the war resolution that is the author of our current and future pain. No two ways about it, they were all foolish enough to get suckered by George W. Bush. As the horror unfolds and we realize that we lost lives and billions of dollars to install a pro Iran, Shia theocracy which asks us to leave Iraq, anyone who stood with Bush will lose credibility. Obama is to young and, quite frankly, to much of an opportunist.

These folks will see events quickly pass them by and discredit their judgment at the same time.

We don't know who our new leaders are going to be, our "backbone" as you call it. For once, they will emerge from the will of the party and the people. I say it's time for

NEW LEADERS FOR A NEW DEMOCRATIC PARTY

3. THE DLC IS NOT THE BACKBONE OF ANYTHING.
See Obama doing everything he can to distance himself from them.

We won't win with republican lite DLCers. Two corporate parties do not benefit the country.

4. Hey listen, Corey Baker. I wish many more Americans --

-- had your level of attention to the political arena, as well as your level of enthusiasm.

That you are 15 just makes it better & puts pressure on anyone older to invest more energy in their citizenship.

I'm glad you're on the Democratic side of the spectrum, too, because I wouldn't want the GOP to benefit from what you can obviously bring to the process.

Welcome again to DU and continue to kick butt.
