Is everything going to be about "sore losers" now?
This from an article about the Rice confirmation in the Detroit Free Press.

<snip>
On the Senate floor Wednesday, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., suggested Democrats were sore losers.

"I wonder why we are starting this new Congress with a protracted debate about a foregone conclusion," McCain said. Since Rice is qualified for the job, he said, "I can only conclude that we are doing this for no other reason than because of lingering bitterness over the outcome of the election."

Well let's look at it this way Sen. McCain. Perhaps many people feel that Rice is NOT qualified for the job. Heck, perhaps many people feel she was not qualified for the job from which she was promoted. I have honestly never understood why so many democrats have a soft spot in their heart for this man.

I cannot respect anyone who uses Election results as a reason to dismiss legislators doing their job. We do still have a two-party system, yes?

I'd love for anyone from Arizona to send him a message calling him on this ridiculous statement.

2. The nice thing about memes is
they too shall pass. They're still feeling their oats with their inane, vicarious victory. Fact is we are all Americans, and thus we are all losers in this election. The difference between us and them is that we know it, and they don't.

7. I agree. This is what I just faxed to his office.
To the Honorable Senator McCain:

I noticed in the newspaper today you were quoted with respect to the Senate debate regarding Dr. Condoleeza Rice's confirmation as Secretary of State.

On the senate floor you suggested Democrats were sore losers.

"I wonder why we are starting this new Congress with a protracted debate about a foregone conclusion," McCain said. Since Rice is qualified for the job, he said, "I can only conclude that we are doing this for no other reason than because of lingering bitterness over the outcome of the election."

I would suggest to you that there is indeed another reason. You may consider Dr. Rice qualified for the job, but many people including myself do not. Dr. Rice was the National Security Advisor at the time of the greatest terrorist attack on US soil in modern history. While occupying that position, she received multiple warnings of impending attacks by al Qaeda, some even going so far as to surmise that terrorists were seeking to use fully fueled passenger jets as missiles to fly directly into buildings. When confronted with these reports, rather than act on them, Dr. Rice did nothing. Subsequently she misled the public about the alerts in order to minimize them. Since that time, Dr. Rice has participated in a campaign by the Bush administration to take America to war based on lies and has also participated in attempts to enable US forces to torture prisoners. The line of torture is not a blurred one, as some administration officials would like us to think. Rather, it is a clear one, and it acts as a divider between civilization and barbarism. Given her performance as National Security Advisor, Dr. Rice is clearly ill-equipped to represent the United States as its chief diplomat and foreign policy advisor.

Furthermore, you do your colleagues in the Senate a disservice when you chide them for carrying out their legislative duties. Senate confirmation of Presidential appointments is a constitutional exercise designed to maintain balance between our three branches of government. Despite these confirmations being historically rubber stamp for the most part, any Senator with reservations or objections has the duty to raise them prior to a vote. By invoking the bitterness of the election you failed to disparage the Democrats and instead appear disrespectful of the United States Constitution and legislative responsibility.

Regards,

8. Why start with a protracted debate about a foregone conclusion?
Why have any debates?
Why not sign your votes over to the Republicans?
The results are all foregone conclusions....

Go on vacation... Relax.

10. That just burned me up.
Probably even more than the nudge about sore losers. As I said in my letter to him above (in slightly different words), it's their sworn duty dammit. What the hell do we have a constitutional system of checks and balances for if we aren't going to use them? Give me a break!

Did you guys notice the way I frame it?

That is EXACTLY what a "rethug" would say about a Democrat making such statement.

12. McCain wants the nomination, so he's sold out. Funny part is
he'll never get it. They know if he gets to the top, they can't control him. It's why they ran W at a time when McCain could easily have won (without, ahem, help).

19. I thought Bush was chosen by the voters in primaries>
or was he chosen in smoke filled rooms?
And as for 2008, forget McCain, he will be too old to run.
I am betting on Ahnold the Gropenator. Repukes will nominate
him cuz if he can win in California, he can win easily in a
nationwide election. Although I think (and hope) they are
wrong. The southerners may not go for a "furriner fella".

16. And to think there was a time I would have voted for McCain for President
But the word 'honor' obviously doesn't mean much to him anymore. What a waste that he survived being a POW only to come home and screw his country.

21. I wrote this LTTE - not published yet...
To those who think that we should get over it, you know, the sore losers, the whiners, I say this. We are neither sore losers nor are we whiners. What we are doing is sounding the alarm bells. We have a bush administration that failed to act on intelligence to prevent 911. We have a president who stated he did not even think of Bin Laden anymore. We have an administration that has failed to secure our seaports, borders, our nuclear and chemical plants, and our rail system.

We have an administration that fabricated intelligence and lied to justify an invasion in Iraq. The result - thousands of Americans dead or wounded, thousands of Iraqi men, women, and children dead and wounded, the loss of respect in the world, and the looting of our treasury of $200 billion dollars.

We have an administration that has under funded our education system and is cutting Pell grants. We have a president who has reduced pollution controls making our air, water, and food more polluted. We have a president who is drilling in pristine Alaska and cutting down our last remaining Giant Sequoias. We have a massive debt, our jobs are going overseas, and we have record job loss. Not to even mention the scandals of Medicare and the Social Security non-crisis.

While you are pondering the subjective nature of gays and abortions, we are fighting, yelling, and screaming for our democracy.
