Update: Contact Sensebrenner at the Judiciary Committee
Rep. Sensenbrenner, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee holds the power to allow investigations into election irregularities. It appears Sensenbrenner has been sighting this as a "states issue" and feels all matters should be left to these individual states. John Conyers's report ( http://www.truthout.org/docs_05/010605Y.shtml ), shows the need for federal investigation. Once hearings are allowed, Conyers will have full power to pursue Blackwell and many others with power of subpoena if need be.

Chairman Sensenbreener is best contacted through the Judiciary Committee both by leaving a phone message (voice mail system) and writing directly.

2. There was a report on Sensenbrenner this AM on NPR.
Edited on Mon Jan-24-05 11:38 AM by Ojai Person
It actually sounded as if he has some integrity, although he is a rabid conservative and Republican. He was an agressive prosecutor against Clinton in the phony impeachment case.

He was ready to subpeona Ashcroft and voted for sunset amendments to the Patriot Act so that it would expire. He and Conyers worked together on this. Perhaps Conyers has a working relationship with him.

They interviewed a top lobbyist for the ACLU, who said Sensenbrenner is one of her favorites (!). She said he isn't afraid to buck the powers that be when he sees a legitimate case. He is fond of doing the right thing and following the rules, including making sure Dems have all they need in the way of staff, etc., unlike his Republican colleagues. (That didn't seem to be in evidence during the Conyers hearing, however, did it, when they weren't even allowed use of the recording equipment in the conference room).

Sensenbrenner also supported enforcing the Voting Rights Act, unlike his cohorts, according to this lobbyist.

 I always thought he was a huge creep, but then people are complex beings, thank god.

9. I heard it too
It made me think we may have some sway with him. They stressed that he has the courage to break with the Repukes

Here's a link to the piece they did entitled "Hard-Nosed Sensenbrenner Unafraid to Break with Party"

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4463553

It's almost like a sign from above :)

18. That's good to hear.
Having read your comments, my hope is that Sensenbrenner wants to do the right thing but needs certifiable support to back up his decision.

I heard Rep. Conyers say a long time ago (paraphrasing) that congresspeople need to know that the people are behind them; they will act when the people speak out to them.

5. This time I will fax Sensenbrenner and cc it to the rest of the HJC.
I've already written each member a letter individually addressed.

I'll make 2 points:

That the matter can't be left to the states, as Florida and Ohio have shown;

and

That if Sensenbrenner had the integrity to question a president on his honesty about his illicit sex life, he should care even more about a public official's honesty about the national election.

:kick: Yeeeeeeehaawwwwwwww!

Dear Representative Sensenbrenner,

I recently wrote you to ask you to hold hearings on the 2004 election as requested by Representative John Conyers. I have heard that you believe that this matter should be left to the states. I submit that this matter cannot be left to the states, because Florida and Ohio have shown that partisan politics will hinder fair investigations and real change will not occur. And change is necessary if the American people are to have confidence in their vote.

Additionally Representative Sensenbrenner, I would ask that you have the integrity and not act out of partisanship toward this issue. I would find it extremely hypocritical if you were to ignore the calls for this investigation knowing that you aggressively pursued President Clinton about his illicit sex life. The issues of fair and honest voting in a national election are surely more important than that!

Thank you,

12. Email faxes
Also,

You can email Sensenbrenner and the committee a fax using this faxing service:

remote-printer.Congressman_Sensenbrenner@12022253190.iddd.tpc.int; [email protected]

I'm curious though, does anyone know if this service actually works? I don't have a fax machine myself to test it on.

13. Phone calling
When calling a senator that does not represent my home
state is my call still recorded and referred to the
senator. I've heard talk that you should only contact
people that represent your state.

I've faxed Sensebrenner but will calling him have
any effect, Since i'm not a citizen of his state?

Doesn't it matter I'm a citizen of the U.S. ?

(sorry for asking this again, lost the original thread)

14. i always do this...
i find where the senator or congressperson is from , i get a zip code from that area and the secretaries usually ask for the zip code you live in..so i have a local zip code ready for them, i never give address , i say i do not care to leave address, but they think i am a constitutant because i have a zip code from that representatives area. a congressman from missouri told me to do that so my opinion gets passed on to the representative!!

17. well in this case
Sensenbbrenner phone comments are given to a voice mail box. You aren't asked if your a local constituent. On a different note, many Congressman and Senators who hold leadership roles for various committees are in fact looking for feedback from Americans nationwide. Sensenbrenner is the Chairman of the Judiciary Committee so don't even second guess contacting him on an issue that goes to the heart of our Democracy, voting reform/investigation.
