I hate to say it because everyone think he is so great. But, he misses a lot and most of it isn't that funny. Sorry!

5. Same here. Still funny, but not as much so since Nov 2.
I strongly believe laughter is the best medicine, and I'm doing all I can to take heave dosages whenever possible. But I find it easier to laugh at things other than the election debacle, to laugh at something truly humorous instead of laughing at what this administration is doing. It's too serious to be funny anymore, and the Daily Show unfortunately keeps reminding me of that.

All that said, still a great show in an uncomfortable position. We all thought we were going to laugh Bush right out of office; must be tough to keep writing for the show when Bush managed to get the last laugh on us.

6. I was in the Daily Show audience
on Jan. 6 (with tickets that the Mister and I had to order up about 10 months in advance). The vote certification got totally eclipsed by the Alberto Gonzales hearings, which JS really took on big time.

Also, JS's guest that evening was Professor Howard Zinn, leftist historian. The HZ interview I saw was lengthy and thoughtful, and Jon had obviously read and taken to heart much of Howard Zinn's new book. I'm sure that the interview got edited down to fit into a small time window.

I'd say Jon is doing A-OK for the cause of truth and right. I love that guy-- enough to go to NYC in the dead of winter to see him live, and to schlep his big book all over the city to get it autographed for my elderly mother-- who loves Jon Stewart even more than I do.

The Daily Show packs a pretty big punch, especially for a fake news show with only about 17 minutes of actual air time Mon-Thurs. I now know firsthand that JS is just as funny and intelligent when he's live and unscripted as he is when he's reading off a teleprompter.

Anyone who says bad stuff about Jon Stewart is a big, fat, Tucker Carlson-esque d*@k.

11. Anyone can go
and it's free. You just have to get tickets and then get your posterior to NYC-- if you're not there already. Some lucky people just showed up without tickets and got in by using extras held by people in line.

It is sooo worth going! The studio is small (it holds about 100 audience members) and there are no bad seats.

JS comes out ahead of time and talks to his audience. He is devastatingly funny, and incredibly charming. To me, Jon Stewart is just slightly south of god-like.

In other words, I love him too!

32. We got tickets for the first
Boston show of the Convention.

Had to wait outside for 2 1/2 hours, but oh was it worth it!! I credit Jon Stewart and the Daily Show for having saved my sanity since the 2000 election.

Some shows are funnier than others, but it's worth watching for the brilliant moments. One of my favorites was that Henry Bonilla interview last summer. Maybe the funniest and most eviscerating interview ever done.

9. Fell through the cracks
They make fun of the stuff we actually see on the news. Since we did not see it on the news, there is nothing to make fun of.

Maybe Lewis Black will talk about it, since he catches the stories that "fall through the cracks", on Back in Black?

Looks like Feb 18th w/be first of 2005.

(Daily Show staff) hate it when people cheer - they want to make you laugh. So sometimes they hold off on tackling stuff till they can make it funny.

Tonight's was brilliant, esp. the Colbert segment about the CBS firings.

It's COMEDY, not news. He has no responsibility to anything other than making people laugh.
I find some of the posts above a bit concerning. There is something very wrong when people rely on a comedian to make their political points.

political points. Think about it, how many times have you seen cable networks run a funny clip that is political and that they themselves would never touch?

22. The sad thing is
That Jon Stewart and the daily show has more journalistic credibility in its left pinky than the entire mainstream media put together. It can be hard sometimes to remember its primary purpose is make comedy and entertain you and not groundbreaking journalism

Also he only has 30 minutes a day and the republicans give him so much stuff to work with I am sure he has trouble deciding which will be the most funny. It seems like since they won the election they have gone double looney with the comments they have been making.

23. Sure. What you have to remember, though, is that there is more
than one way (tv news) to open a political discussion. Or, to badger the MSM for that matter. My husband and I write political comedy, have friends who do. Bu$hco makes it just too easy.

Yeah, the kleptos are in the kandystore. Good, maybe they'll hang themselves sooner.

24. Reality Check, Viacom Owns Comedy Central, Viacom is Kissing * A**
Right Now. We all know that CBS got in deep doo doo for a variety of things including breaking the Iraqi prison abuse scandals that made the war in iraq a political liability for Bush in 2004 instead of the asset Rove wanted it to be. Then there were the ENRON tapes CBS released last summer in which Enron employers used explitives and laughed about how when * was elected he would get rid of price caps so that they could more thoroughly f**k grandma's in California. Journalism like that had gotten Viacome in the bad graces of the White House which had taken to slapping them with huge fines everytime someones breast popped out.

Then Karl Rove sent his forged memo to CBS.

http://www.broadcastingcable.com/index.asp?layout=articlePrint&articleID=CA493472

Now Viacom is CBS's bitch. See this article which is linked through Buzzflash. And Viacom owns a whole lot of media properties. No wonder CBS has been the most reluctant of all the news networks to cover Votergate. Even Fox has given it more coverage.

26. Bush makes fun of Bush too, What Karl Rove and Co. do not
like is humor that makes people think. They dont mind the "Bush is so stupid..." jokes, because no one is going to impeach him for being stupid. They dont mind the "Republicans are so greedy.." jokes because everyone expects Republicans to be greedy. They kind of like the "All politicians are corrupt..." jokes because that encourages Americans to stay away from politics. What they fear most is that someone might actually try to educate us about how the system works.

28. He did, the same way CBS did. That is why CBS got in mega trouble.
I am wondering if Comedy Central has just recenly asked the Daily Show writers to play it cool on a few stories (i.e the election) until their parent company's troubles with the White House are over. They wouldnt even have to talk to Stewart about it. If he really thinks that Bush won and Kerry lost all Viacom would have to do is have the writers NOT suggest clever skits about the election protests. There has been plenty of other news for them to make fun of.

I doubt that Jon Stewart would jump when Comedy Central or Viacom tells him to. He is more likely to tell them "S**w you, im outta here." They need him way more than he needs them.

But the staff and producers of the Daily Show are expendible. If the show folds, Stewart goes to cable, takes a few favorite players and writers with him and the rest are out of work.
