Husband heard on AA that Dems cut a deal re: filabusters and OH cert.
This is second hand, but I was wondering if anybody else heard the same thing, and if so, what are the details. He said that the AA folks are furious about this Dem sell-out.

1. Hadn't heard a thing about this. It makes zero sense as we got nothing
from Republicans in this "deal."

3. Don't know what the "deal" was. That's why I'm asking if anybody heard.
But I would assume that Repukes won't pass that new rule to stop our ability to filabuster if we, as we did, roll over for the Ohio certification.

12. Sen Schumer from NY asked about it today
He questioned Gonzales in the confirmation hearing about whether or not he was prepared, as AG, to rule that the filibuster rule was constitutional or not. Seems like he wouldn't have asked that if they already had a deal.

Besides, I thought that Sen. Reid had told Sen Dems that if the Rethugs did away with the filibuster rule, they would do away with ANY unanimous consent procudre and object to every damn one of them. No business could be conducted in the Senate, because you could tie things up with quorum calls, endless rollcall votes and so forth.

2. Randi said that was what happened.
I like Randi, but she often "stretches". She is truly bummed about today instead of seeing that this is a truly historical day. We will never give up or let go.

up their part of the deal, and it is too late for the Dems to do anything about the Ohio certification. KKKarl Rove wins again.

Everyone familiar with the old Scorpion and Turtle story?

Aesop's fable of “The Scorpion and the Turtle”:

A scorpion once came to the bank of a stream and wanted to get to the other side. He called out to a turtle, "Please let me ride on your back to the other side." The turtle said, "If I let you on my back you will sting me and kill me." The scorpion promised that he wouldn't and even signed a written agreement. The turtle, worrying what the other creatures of the forest would say, took the scorpion to the other side. As soon as they reached the other side, the scorpion impaled the turtle with his poisonous stinger. As the turtle was dying, he said, "But you promised not to kill me." The scorpion smiled ingeniously, "It's not my fault. It's my nature."

10. Randi said that's the most likely reason..
why they voted with Reps. Some of the Reps ARE trying to meet Dems 1/2way?

Maybe we ought to know who the Reps are that are working with Dems.

15. The Republicans didn't have the votes to get rid of the filibuster
cause McCain told them he'd vote against it....now they're mad at him.

So, what was the deal if they didn't have the votes?

Also, did the Repugs need 51 or 60 votes?

19. The repubs wouldn't
have to offer a deal on filibusters to get Ohio certified. There was never a chance of any other outcome. Shit, half the Dem speakers proclaimed Bush the victor.

23. They didn't want *'s "legitimacy" seriously challenged by a fight over OH
That would be the point of a deal. No way could the media ignore Dems standing together and refusing to certify *'s selection. Of course, he would have been sworn in anyway, but we would have made our point big time. Too bad.

25. TOO LATE!! BUSH IS NOW SCARRED!!
For heaven's sake, I'm so sick of seeing everyone play down the monumental event that happened yesterday! In my mind, Boxer's and Conyers' and the others' forcing of the temporary halt to elector-certifying, that was a HUGE SLAP IN THE FACE OF BUSH.

It was, in my mind, similar to the "victory" won by republicans when they managed to impeach Clinton. Did the impeachment remove him or curtail his power in any way? No. It was mostly symbolic, in the end.

Well this is, too--but symbolism can affect a leader's power! Yesterday was a quasi-impeachment of Bush!

26. It might have been if Dems hadn't left Boxer twisting in the wind.
By implicitly not supporting her action, through voting to certify Ohio, the Dem leaders signaled loud and clear that they think there was NO fraud in Ohio, or elsewhere, and bush is legit. I don't see how this is helpful to election reform.
