Sorry, but this is an empty exercise. It only brings home the fact that ..
... the rethugs got away with it again. Yes, it's great that there was a debate, and that congresscritters got to talk about disenfranchisement and so forth, but all it's doing for me is driving home the point that the Rethugs totally stole this election again, and our elected representatives are helping them do it.

I'm turning off the TV. I can't listen to any more of this.

1. It puts them on record; on the wrong side of history.

Boxer has some cajones, I think.

2. Yes, I agree. They have courage to raise an objection.
But all they're talking about is the number of voting machines and the long lines ... they're not talking about the anecdotal evidence of machines that recorded Kerry votes for Bush, the possibility that the opti-scan counting machines were hacked, etc. etc.

They're letting Dreier get away with saying the vote in Ohio was recounted. B.S. it was recounted. It was recounted the way the Bush CRIME Family wanted it recounted.

This just makes me sadder than I was before the objection was filed.

6. What is sound and fury without action?
I'm sick of the spin. Why don't they back up their words? If they thought the election had so many problems, why are they all voting to accept the results?:puke:

7. But most people WON'T be separating wheat from chaff.
The media isn't even covering this, so most people won't even KNOW who's wheat and who's chaff. And they probably won't care. I know a lot of people who worked like hell for Kerry, but they've given up. They're ready to move on. Again. With another effing stolen election on the books.

Yes, you and I and a lot of DU-ers have long memories. But a lot of people just aren't going to give a rip.

8. No it really isn't an empty exercise
it brings the issue out and gives us power and leverage to lobby these pukes to do something about these freaking machines...we can hold them to their words to fix the problems and make the pukes look bad for objecting to fair voting. My brother-in-law thinks I am a nut case conspiracy theorist - sound familar to some of the speeches from the repunks today- anyway I stopped him dead in his tracks when I said why would anyone object to a paper trail - unless of coures you wanted to steal the election - he said can't argue with that - and that my friends is what we have to do - lobby to get these machines fixed and then ask why would anyone fight this and make them look really bad.

10. We've been objecting to voting problems for FOUR FREAKING YEARS.
And barely one goddamned thing has been done. I have NO CONFIDENCE -- absoltely NONE -- that anyone is really going to do anything about this -- no matter what they said in that chamber today.

The Pukes have all the power. They're not going to do a damned thing, and they really don't care how they look to us.

I'm not going to stop fighting, of course. I'll write letters to whomever I think can do some good (my senators are Santorum and Specter, so I think I won't waste printer paper on them) -- but I have absolutely NO CONFIDENCE in the Congress to do one damned thing. And I have NO CONFIDENCE in the right-wing (that is to say mainstream) media to encourage them to do one damned thing.

But right now, I feel like crawling into a hole. Making myself as stupid as all the people who went to the polls believing that Saddam and the Iraqi insurgents caused 9/11. Watching "Who's Your Daddy" instead of C-Span. I won't do it, but I FEEL like doing it after today.

Jed Bartlett is my president. Someone intelligent, complex, human and moral ... and COMPLETELY FICTIONAL!

12. It is to get the election Fraud on record...its but a battle, the war is
Edited on Thu Jan-06-05 03:12 PM by DearAbby
Not over. There is no instant relief when it comes to the government. We HAVE to get a verifiable system of voting or it is over. that is the goal. So calm down kiddies...we all knew.

15. I wish I could share your confidence that the fight will go on.
But I have no confidence in any politicians anymore. Mister Smith no longer goes to Washington.

And the United States as we knew it is completely screwed.

Stolen again. With the seal of approval of even the most liberal members of the Senate.

Bollocks.

21. I'm with you.
The repukes tested the fraud waters four years ago and saw how easily the Dems rolled over. This year they refined their techniques, and the best the Dems could do was muster a quickly voted down 2 person objection - that both Tubbs Jones and Boxer admitted was not even an objection to the chimp's "victory." A bunch of platitudes about the "right" to vote mean nothing in a country controlled by repukes that has rapidly under the chimp descended into fascism. America:RIP.

16. We can SAY every election is a sham till something is done ...
... but who's really going to care. SAYING every election from now on is a sham won't get us our share of power back. As long as the Pukes are in power, and keep themselves in power by putting their campaign staff in charge of statewide elections all over the country ... we can say SHAM SHAM SHAM till we're blue in the face, and no one is going to give a shit!

13. I don't think it is an empty gesture. It had to be done, but it's
sad that all Dems didn't sign on. Think of the reverse, say Clinton instead of Bush in the WH in this situation. Every repug would have signed on.

17. No, This is Wonderful
This is not an empty exercise; this is forcing the issue to be discussed...in public, in the open. Of course it won't change the plans for the inauguration in a couple weeks. That was never the goal. This isn't about Kerry. This is about democracy.

18. Discussed. In public. In the open. With no media even touching the story.
If a tree falls in the forest and the media aren't there to let the American people hear it ...?

Mark my words ... in 2008, voting problems will be even worse. The Pukes in power will have forestalled any reform whatsoever ... and they can do it. They. Are. In. Power. They don't have to do ANYTHING if they don't wanna. They are smug and self-righteous, and they don't believe for a minute that the voters are going to punish them for not doing anything.

Because as long as they support marriage between a man and a woman only, the voters will keep trooping to the polls and voting them back in. On defective machines.

I will be glad to eat my words .... THRILLED to eat my words if anything gets done on this issue. You can say "I told you so" over and over, and I'll take it like a woman.

22. I've been out of pocket most of the day and got back
in time to see a Repub. make a complete ass of himself (Ney) as well as some others. The Dems had their say and handled it well. This may, just may, get enough citizens angry enough to ask for a recount. I will not hold my breath but it looks as if we will have to rally to get it done.
