Does "divine the intent of voters" sond familiar?
From the AP today:

Ohio Recount Resembles Florida in 2000

By JOHN NOLAN, Associated Press Writer

CINCINNATI - In a scene reminiscent of Florida circa 2000, two teams of Republican and Democratic election workers held punch-card ballots up to the light Wednesday and whispered back and forth as they tried to divine the voters' intent from a few hanging chads.

From 2000:

James Baker III, a senior adviser to former President George H.W. Bush and now to his son, accused the hand counters from the three counties of "subjective" attempts to "divine the intent of the voter." The Bush family's consigliere added that hand-counted votes present "tremendous opportunities for human error and ... mischief."

And from a Salon commentary in 2000:

Hand counting is arbitrary, open to manipulation and abuse. Hence the comic contortions of the ballot examiners holding up cards to the light, trying to divine the intent of voters," complained syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer, mouthing the party line.

So who's shilling for who these days?
