1. I am sure that it is illegal to have a pet Kangaroo.
However, under some circumstances you can get a permit to keep one for a while.
If, for example, you find a dependent joey (baby roo) that still needs nurturing,
you will be given a permit to keep it to maturity (relative). Then it will have to be released.
Having said that, I am sure that there are many people in country areas who have
"special" relationships with native animals of all sorts.
I was in Tasmania once and I met a guy who seemed to have about a hundred pet fairy penguins.
He was a ranger so it was accepted as part of the job.
Of course if you open a Zoo, the sky's the limit.

2. The closest is the thousands that live on my uncle's farm.
But they donate a couple from the population every few months for dog food so not really "pets".

3. Yup. Several.
The funnest was Bambi.

Bambi had a delightful habit of jumping onto your legs in bed. Bad news if you sleep on your back since the "soles" of their feet are just as well padded as our shins which she invariably landed upon.

If she missed she would slap you around the face until you got up and prepared her bottle.

She would only drink from a modified dolls bottle. (less than an oz)

And after being infested with sand fleas, she fell in love with the vacuum cleaner. My uncle suggested it as a joke, but since roos and most pet chemicals don't mix, we gave it a try.

All this kept up long after she'd grown up and was released to run with the mob.

Oh, and every single one of them loved water beds.

4. yep
We ride them to work when we can't get our V8 Interceptors to start.

Seriously dude, Australia is one of the most urbanised nations on earth, plenty of people I know have never even seen a kangaroo outside a zoo.

Did you ever have a bald eagle as a pet?
