2. My favorite European country
I love the Netherlands. Lived for a summer in Akkrum, in Friesland, of all places. It's close to Leeuwarden. I also worked in Utrecht and have had a lot of fun in Den Haag.

Hope you'r enjoying living in such an open minded and progressive country!

4. I do love it here, while missing Texas at times....
Texas has the space and down-home feeling, Holland has seasonal changes, a great sense of personal freedom and security. I am glad that my children are here at this time - especially my 20 year old son.

Friesland is lovely - wanted to move to Leeuwarden in my younger years for its special light and less people!
Were you working for an American company?

6. More
I worked for a friend's dad who was with PTT subsidiary Unisource (which has now been spun off). IT was 12 years ago.

That's awesome your children are having the experience to live overseas - that time in my life was more educational for me than any of the classes I took in undergrad!

Cheers!

7. Japan checking in
Hi, I'm the Vice-chair of Democrats Abroad in Osaka Japan, part of the Tri-City area (Kobe, Kyoto)

Tokyo DA is chock full of Howard Deanites, who should be posting here soon.

I'm in Shanghai China where Democrats have to operate unofficially, due to the concerns of our Chinese communist hosts...

Spread the word we have our own group here on DU

10. Hi there, theexpat!
I love Den Haag - lived here most of my life.

Groningen seems way out in "the sticks" to us "Randstaders", (the group of 4 large cities here) you know. :D

Have not been up there in a long time, so it probably has changed some.

Enjoy your studies here!

11. It is out in the boonies . . .
I saw a tractor drive through the city center only 2 weeks ago. That's the Boeren for ya. Having a great time with my studies, thank you. Enjoy madurodam! You can always go there if you want to see a little bit of Groningen :hi:

18. I used to live near Dordrecht
More precisely in the Alblasserwaard. I was born in a little village called Bleskensgraaf, about 10 minutes drive from Dordrecht. It's a nice old "island" city, but it has a pretty bad rap with regards to crime. As a child, I spent many summers in the nearby Biesbosch (national park) with our yacht.

POSTING RESTRICTIONS ON NEW MEMBERS

Please be aware that new members are restricted from starting new discussion topics. We require you to first post responses to a few existing discussion threads before you are given the privilege to do so. We wish we did not have to enforce this rule, but we have found it very helpful to keep disruptors off of our message board. Please do not email us to ask what the minimum number is; we won't tell you, and it's not very high.

New members are similarly restricted from using the private messaging function.
