Grafitti heaven
Edited on Wed Aug-10-05 04:17 PM by mogster

Yes, it's Banksy! :D

Look at these, fabulous!

In ten years I predict that these pictures will be worth something on the open art market and probably end up in an auction at Christie's. And that must mean that the Israelis and the Palstinians finally have become friends ;-)

I find political art refreshing.

3. Banksy is a genius. A very courageous one at that...
It seems very unfair to call that grafitti. It is way, way more than that.

5. By what definition are these graffiti?
It's patently clear to me where the lawlessness and philistinism is here ....

6. Those are wonderful.
Especially the little girl with the balloons.
I wonder how many kids wish they could just float away like that. Maybe to a safe place, with green grass and playgrounds.

So sad that people are still being kept behind walls.
I thought after 1990, we were going forward...

7. I don't want to sound like a spoilsport ...
... but I wonder at the value of this. Banksy does not seem very rebellious or countercultural to me. These decorations, though technically accomplished on a simply professional rather than aesthetic level, seem an attempt to beautify what should be left ugly. I'm sure the Palestinians really appreciate the irony, as I daresay Banksy did while he hopped on a flight back to London from his "holiday".

This is reasonable art but hollow politics. It leaves me cold.

9. I don't quite "get" why it would be advantageous to keep the wall ugly ...
... there is, surely, a long tradition of using graffiti to draw attention to political and architectural ugliness.

Of course the artwork won't solve anything in itself but it doesn't half make its point well!
