Bomber's family express sorrow (Channel 4 News)

The family of suicide bomber Mohammad Sidique Khan has expressed their "deepest and heartfelt sympathy" to the victims and said their son must have been "brainwashed" to carry out such an evil atrocity.

The Khan family made the statement as Scotland Yard detectives began questioning an Egyptian biochemist arrested in connection with the July 7 attacks.

Police travelled to Egypt to quiz Magdy el-Nashar, 33, about a flat in Leeds and over suggestions he knew one of the bombers, Jamaican-born Islamic convert Lindsay Jamal.

El-Nashar is understood to have denied any connection to the attacks. He arrived at Leeds University in October 2000 and completed a biochemistry PhD in May, sponsored by the National Research Centre in Cairo.

1. Amazing that the family
had absolutley no idea what their son was up to. Making bombs and engaging in paramilitary training takes times and isn't exactly inconspicuous. These parents are either crap parentrs or else they were complicit.

2. There were several houses that got raided
including ones where no-one not involved in the conspiracy lived, so the families wouldn't have seen them making bombs. The Hussain family may not have know exactly what their son was doing, but at 18 or 19, you'd expect him to have a fair amount of independence. The Khan family quoted in this article would have no reason to know the day-to-day movements of their son - he was 30. I don't think you can call them "crap parents".

3. Sure I can...
they're crap parents if they raised a mass-murdering terrorist. They're crap parents if they had no idea what he was doing. They even worse if they did andd chose not to turn him in.

4. And they're responible for his decisions forever?
The man was 30 - you think he might have changed since he left their home? Or do you think that parents are meant to keep their own son under surveillance forever, so they know what he's doing?
