Despair of Navy chief facing child porn case

COMMODORE David White, Britain¡¯s military chief in Gibraltar, took sedatives and drank alcohol 24 hours after being stripped of his command, an inquest was told yesterday.

He was found dead at the bottom of his swimming pool after being told that he was to be sent back to Britain pending an investigation into accusations that he had bought child pornography on the internet.

Rupert White, the commodore¡¯s brother, told the inquest in Gibraltar that the decision to relieve him of his command would have been a catatonic shock leaving him in despair.

The inquiry into Commodore White, 50, had been part of Operation Ore, the international police investigation into pornography downloaded from the internet using credit cards.
