It's over for Mark and Diane Thatcher

London - Mark Thatcher and his American wife Diane will divorce after their 18-year marriage suffered an "irretrievable breakdown", Thatcher's spokesperson said on Sunday.

The son of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher will live in Europe while his ex-wife will be based in the United States with their children Michael, 16, and Amanda, 12, said the spokesperson, Abel Hadden.

"Following a difficult year, which has seen Sir Mark Thatcher's arrest, detention in South Africa and the rejection of his visa renewal by the US authorities, it is with great sadness that the couple have taken the decision to divorce," Hadden said.

The divorce will take place in Dallas, Texas, where Diane lives.
