Migrant map of UK reveals surprises
Edited on Thu Sep-08-05 04:24 PM by fedsron2us
There are more American migrants living in Britain than Bangladeshis, according to a new demographic analysis which shows that the country's immigrant population grew by 1.1 million between 1991 and 2001.

I wonder if our American colleagues in DU realise that they are one of the fastest growing migrant groups in the UK. They seem to thrive in our economy and earn well above the average salary. It would be interesting to know what portion of this total arrived after George Bush entered the White House.

1. The BBC put a lot of the results on the web
here. Includes some maps (which, amongst other things, show Great Britain in terms of where the population is - interesting on its own).

2. Class relationships
I've noticed that the british policies specifically allow "rich"
americans more liberty than "poor", so what british culture experiences
of "americans" are mostly rich ones, ones with the idyll to travel and
the means. And it seems, going back all the way to the american civil
war, the english gentry has preferred the southern states white
slavery to the northern states egaletarianism. But that seems to
resonate in britain as well, with the industrail revolution and the
chartists being mostly of "northern" stock, distinctly different than
southeast (read: london) stock.

So, is it suprising that in a world of bush-white race wealth consolidation,
that more american white elitists would live in britain to gain
advantage? The city of london is owned by american banks and
private equity houses, a few timezones earlier, but american as blair,
deeply enshrined in racist ethnocentrism with their heads up bush's ass.

Is any of this a suprise? As one of those statistics, in an area that
on the volestrngle map shows little immigration, i find myself outnumbered
by polish, germans and english who escape to scotland the strife of
england.... firmly entrenched as a minority.

But that is to presume that because of my birth in america, that i am
less scottish than my neighbor; that when i shop for groceries, i am
different; that when i pay taxes, i am different; and that when i
fill up the tank with petrol, that my immigrant blood curdles
differently on paying such high petrol prices. But the truth is that
passports are bits of paper, and people live where they can.

I only wish more of the poorer american underclasses make their way
heard on this side of the pond, that the glossy blair-americanism is
shattered for the truth.
