"Who knew accountants had a Spidey-sense?"
My favourite quote from the paper today!

In context:

Dose - Vancouver edition, Friday, April 8, 2005

In February 2004, Federal Auditor Sheila Fraser ran her fingers through the government books and came back with the conclusion that the 2000 events during the 1990s that Ottawa spent $250 million to "sponsor" - essentially, to put up flags and drop Maple Leafs - didn't look much like a unity movement after all, especially when $100 million were scooped up by ad agencies as "commissions." That prompted Paul Msartin to call the Gomery inquiry to look into the shenanigans. Now, it's a year later and, presto-change-o, her instincts are looking prescient. Who knew accountants had a Spidey-sense?

1. Sheila Fraser is a keeper.
I know that people who are very good at what they do (and there are far too few of them) KNOW what is right and can therefrore identify what is wrong. I know someone with forensic audit/enforcement arm of Canada Revenue Agency. He's amazing and I guess Sheila has the same knowings.

4. We don't need a showboat in the PM's chair.
She's pretty self-important, imo.

5. Oh I dunno,
She is important, or at least her function and by extension the person fulfilling that function is important.

Showboat? I'm not sure what behaviour you believe she exhibits that would cause you to say that.

6. Meh. She just rubs me the wrong way
It seems to me that she has been out to get Chretien at all costs, but maybe it's just the fact that she's had to deal with all that corruption.
Btw, where was the auditor when Mulroney was PM? Just askin'.
