Mental Health - is that covered under national health service?
Depression, etc., any mental health issues?

Insurance in the U.S. sometimes does not cover it, like the policy I have. It occurred to me to wonder about this when it comes to national health plans of other countries.

1. I think it varies by province, like much of our health care...
Nova Scotia's been working to un-break its own system regarding mental illness, but I know little of what other provinces have been up to.

2. Here are the services provided under Alberta Health..

Here is a good explanation of the Canada Health Act as to what is to be covered by all Provinces and what can be decided by the Provinces themselves:

3. In Ontario it is - it's called ODSP
.
.
.

That covers both physical and mental disorders.

For example, if diagnosed with bi-polar (I know a few) - coverage ranges from a permanent income, to extra benefits including treatment, both medication and therapy - plus expenses for travel to and from clinics if need be.

We're pretty well covered for that in Ontario.

For more detailed info, check the link below

4. It's my understanding that psychiatric services are covered nationwide...
I know they are covered in my province (Ontario), but I assumed that was national because psychiatrists are MDs - please correct me if I'm wrong.

5. Thanks for the information
Everyone - IMO the US may be paying a high price for providing mental health treatment as if it were a luxury.
