Tories maintain Cadman tape was doctored

OTTAWA — The Conservatives are repeating allegations that a B.C. journalist doctored a tape of Stephen Harper talking about the Cadman affair – but only in places where they are protected from lawsuits.

MP Pierre Poilievre, the parliamentary secretary to the Prime Minister, slipped out of the Commons by the back door Friday morning rather than take up the NDP's challenge that he repeat the claims outside the chamber. MPs cannot be sued for what they say in the Commons, but outside the door of the House, they have no special protection.

The journalist, Tom Zytaruk said Friday afternoon that suing the Conservatives has crossed his mind, but he doesn't really have the resources. He said they figure they can get away with it.

“The political party that's governing our country feel they can say anything about Joe Little Guy. They've got deep pockets. What recourse does the average Canadian have against that kind of power?” M.r Zytaruk said.

It needs the media to take this up. We shouldn't have to hope that Mr. Zytaruk has to go through the grind of the Cons.

Perhaps Obama might come to Canada with a copy of his book in hand? Just hoping.
