...in their inner core," Emerson (the ex-Liberal) said in an interview Thursday.

All because the opposition is calling Harper's bluff on making the softwood vote a confidence motion.

Brinksmanship can be a bitch, eh, Emerson? Keep on grasping at those straws, asshole.

1. A few Tories will be anti-American
when this hits the new cycle:

U.S. plans tougher inspections at border

Airline passengers, shipping agents on hook to finance increased agricultural checks

OTTAWA — Calling Canada a potential conduit for bioterrorism, pests and disease, the U.S. government is boosting its northern border inspection muscle -- and making Canadian air travellers and commercial shippers foot the bill.

In what it calls an "emergency action," the United States Department of Agriculture has served notice it will levy a per-trip surcharge on all air travellers and commercial cargo shippers from Canada, starting Nov. 24.

The U.S. entry fee will range from $5 (U.S.) per air passenger to $488 per maritime vessel, with trucks paying $5.25 per crossing and railways $7.50 per car.

...

International Trade Minister David Emerson said yesterday that Washington alerted him to the measure about two weeks ago, adding he plans to keep talking with the United States to forestall any impact on cross-border business.

Globe

Of course hot on the heels of yesterday's FDA attack on pharmaceuticals...

Tests Reveal Fake Drugs From Canada

August 31, 2006

WASHINGTON — Testing revealed fake versions of Lipitor and other widely used prescription drugs ordered through websites linked to a Canadian pharmacy, the Food and Drug Administration said Wednesday.

Consumers who bought drugs through the 10 websites should not use the medications because they may not be safe, the FDA said. The sites include RxNorth.com, Canadiandrugstore.com and Rxbyfax.com.

Prescriptions ordered through the sites are filled by Mediplan Prescription Plus Pharmacy, also known as Mediplan Global Health Inc., according to the FDA and information posted on the sites. A message seeking comment from the Minnedosa, Canada, company was not immediately returned.

Testing revealed counterfeit versions of drugs including Pfizer Inc.'s Lipitor and AstraZeneca's Crestor, both for cholesterol, the FDA said.

LA Times

(of course they are not counterfeit, it's just that FDA uses this term to describe drugs that haven't been certified by the FDA...but that's a small detail :eyes: )

If I don't know better, the US sees a very weak government and is really pushing the envelope to get them to rollover...perhaps to the point of sacrificing their election chances.

Makes you wonder what the Harperites have up their sleeve...Emerson knew about this two weeks ago, but still 'blue sky'ed' the softwood trade deal to get it through Parliament...hopefully this latest trade attack will kill off the Tories who have, as Emerson in the OP has done, seem to be clueless in their strategy.

2. As an American, every time I hear some Canadian right-wing asshole
accuse somebody of being anti-American, I want to kick them in the balls.

I could elaborate, but I don't want to get myself worked up, so I'll just leave it at this:

if the Liberal Party were truly anti-American, then Emerson being elected as a Liberal is an insult to America and consquently he should resign to help Canada properly respect its neighbour to the South.
