Canadian killed in Afghanistan suicide attack
Kandahar, Afghanistan — A horrific suicide attack Friday claimed the life of another Canadian soldier in Afghanistan.

The soldier died when the suicide bomber plowed his explosives-laden vehicle into a NATO convoy in southern Afghanistan near the Pakistan border.

Witnesses said there was a giant blast from the bomb, followed by a huge fire. It took several hours to extract the dead soldier's body from the burned vehicle.

"The soldier was travelling in an armoured G-Wagon light utility vehicle as part of a resupply convoy heading north from Spin Boldak to Kandahar Air Field," said Col. Tom Putt, deputy commander of Task Force Afghanistan.

I suspected as much after seeing reports that a "coalition soldier" had died. And...

1. Its been nearly one fatality/day lately, and several times than injured
A force of 2000 can't sustain casualties like that for very long, and remain effective. It must be pretty grim over there.

I get the feeling that the Taliban didn't like Hillier's little comment about "scumbags", and are letting us know. It seems like Canada has been getting more than its share lately.

2. When we stopped being peacekeepers and our focus was changed
from reconstruction to combat, our troops became BIG targets. Our soldiers are replacements for US soldiers so bush can keep his illegal occupation and bloodbath going in Iraq so I could see why the Taliban would see our soldiers no different than US soldiers, they are no different.
