OTTAWA - As Stephen Harper came down the aisle towards her, Liliane El-Helou got ready to deliver a stern message to the prime minister. His reply stunned her.
"He just asked me to send him an e-mail," El-Helou said Friday after arriving in Ottawa on Harper's official jet. "That's it."
Harper was doing the rounds on his military Airbus shortly after picking up 88 passengers from Cyprus, and El-Helou, like many Canadian evacuees from Lebanon, was angry at the government's slow and disorganized response.
She was equally wary the prime minister might now be using them for political purposes by coming to their rescue.
"I told him, I hope it's not a political move to erase the mistake that was committed towards us.' I hope he was motivated by humanity and the next few days will prove that," El-Helou said, "if it was political or humanitarian."
