Milw Journal-Sent. allowing Charlie Sykes to set news agenda?
This was cut and pasted from the Bay View Matters yahoo
group; thought it was interesting:

Has anyone read the current article in Milwaukee
Magazine by Bruce Murphy. One of the startling
revelations: that Managing Editor George Stanley has
assigned stories to reporters based on what he had
heard on the Charlie Sykes show!

According to the article, the ridiculous barrage of
'voter fraud' articles started when a group of UW alum
(and listeners of Sykes) questioned Stanley during a
forum why the paper was ignoring the so-called voter
fraud issue. (Fraud defined as discrepancies - mostly
human error - from .007 of total votes cast in
Milwaukee).

As Dave Berkman points out in the current Shepherd
Express, while the Greg Borowski 'Voter Fraud'
articles appeared front page, under the paper's name
plate, the recent article about an *independent* study
saying minorities and seniors would suffer from any
legislation requiring IDs for voting was buried on
page three of the Metro section.

The MM article illustrates why the Journal Sentinel is
simply a mouthpiece for the Republican Party does not
meet the needs of urbanites; the paper is managed and
targeted toward white suburbanites. All the more
reason to continue buying the New York Times for
national news and support our local independent
papers. Articles about cute 'Sex Sells' rummage signs
is not covering the issues of Bay View or the larger
Milwaukee community.

Is anyone up to forming a non-profit group 'Friends of
the Shepherd Express' fundraising group like the
'Friends of Channel 10-36? Building up their staff and
seeing that paper grow would keep our progressive
issues alive - vital to our growth and power. No money
to the Bay Viewer, it is now owned by Journal
Communications.

2. One more reason to get the Cap Times
It's probably not any more balanced, but it has a piquant Progressive flavor to its editorials that studies show most Dems perfer.
