Head's up for WPR show
looks like Wednesday is going to be a good topic

snip:

For Program On: Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at 7:00 AM
After seven, Joy Cardin and her guest talk about the problems of voter fraud problems in Milwaukee...and whether requiring an I-D at the polls might be answer. Guest: Mordecai Lee, associate professor of governmental affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. As a former state senator, he chaired the senate elections committee.

I don't know anything about the guest but you can bet your booties the repubs will have their spin machine revved up to call in. I'll see what I can do on this end.

I will probably catch the recently posted online audio archive later Wednesday morning.

This is a good booking for Cardin.

Sharpen up your talking points people! This is a good chance to make sure everyone knows about how bullshit the idea of ID is in this battle.

5. Intresting morning
I listened to the recently archived first two hours of Joy Cardin this morning. The 6am-7am hour with Dave Berkman talking about the Newsweek mess was really intresting. Lots of right wing nuts get up early to call in.

The other one was the Bush lame duck hour from 7-8am.

"6:00 AM
Joy Cardin - 05/19A
After six, Joy Cardin talks with media critic Dave Berkman about the ongoing controversy over the Newsweek article alleging desecration of the Koran by U.S. interrogators.

Guest: Dave Berkman, host of Wisconsin Public Radio’s Media Talk. Professor emeritus of communication, UW-Milwaukee. Media columnist, Shepherd-Express. www.wpr.org/mediatalk "

"7:00 AM
Joy Cardin - 05/19B

It is a hour bashing "popular culture" for all the evils on society. Just a heads up.

8:00 AM

Joy Cardin - 05/26C

Is popular culture a positive force in the lives of young people? Not according to Joy Cardin's guest, after eight, who says pop culture is the most destructive force in our society today.

7. Another Joy Cardin standout show
Yep, this morning was one of the most extreme topics Joy Cardin has done. She let this guy from US News and World Report go on and on that Bush needs to appoint only radically conservative judges and not go with a "wimpy centrist", in that it was mentioned over and over that Judges "always move left" after they are appointed.

It was one of the most digusting hour I have ever heard.

7:00 AM

Joy Cardin - 06/03B

Congressional members have compromised on the confirmation process for President Bush’s judicial nominees. After seven, Joy Cardin welcomes syndicated columnist John Leo, who says Bush shouldn’t respond by nominating centrist judges.

The Wisconsin State Journal runs his op-ed piece weekly. Always complaining about PC this and PC that. Never offers solutions.

it is well worth it as she had someone on taking about he 14 charactristics of Facism. It was a very good hour.

11. Agreed, CEH
And Joy actually let the guy talk. Needless to say, I was shocked.

I remember reading the article when it came out. It was very powerful and seriously scary in the midst of the Patriot Act and MIHOP and No Fly lists and secret energy meetings and more. I'm thrilled to hear the article has a life of its own on the internet. It is definitely a worthy read.

I thought the freeper that called in was pretty funny. All he could manage to say was "you're obviously liberal." I thought Britt handled him well.

12. Kathleen Dunn lets right wing media nut hang himself
It was on Monday's show. It was on NPR/PBS funding. The right wing had the first half hour and the left wing the second. The right wing nut she had on pretty much hung himself with is endless, very paranoid rants. That was Tim Graham (which I guess Berkman has also had on before) of the "Media Research Center". He sounded like there was a left wing nut under every stone and pebble. He was made fun of in the second half hour.

I've been listening....I had no idea Ben Mehrens would argue the Republican side on every single issue...

But Joe is doing well....he's got his facts down straight and he's not taking any BS from Mehrens.....he's pretty combative and I like that.

I think he's going to be a good spokesman for the party.......

15. I agree
He's doing well and truthfully, I expected no less.

My fear has always been that he will push the party towards a more centrist line and I fear we can't afford to do that anymore. To that end, I thought he might hedge on some of the more progressive issues and so far it seems like his isn't.

common-sense analogies (budget priorites need to be shifted around just like family budgets).......put the blame for the budget mess right where it belongs....on Tommy Thompson! "Tommy created this mess!"

There goes Mehrens again...dismissing a caller who says that Wisconsin taxes aren't that high....claims that we are and challenges Joe to defend it...joe is doing well though...comparing other state "itemized" taxes to ours...but Ben is still giving him static... damn this is getting frustrating listening to Mehrens play Republican....maybe WPR/NPR should go away!!!

going on break now.......good my fingers need a rest and I need to do something about my blood pressure....

talking about the role of the state party in relation to locals....

State party will make sure letters to the editor are written

organizing and building with groups that got involved in '04 ....grow and talk the issues....counter lies (tax and spend) and tell our story....

somebody calls in and says that gas tax is a bargin....30k miles per year $450 in gas taxes keeps roads under control.....

Mehrens is challenging with another repub talking point...

A caller says that issues are Vets issues, Senior Healthcare and ???? says he wants the DPW web address and wants to know how to join the party.....(is that one of us??????)

19. Mehrens
asking about the charge that the Democratic party is in the pocket of WEAC (teachers union)

Weneke responds that there was a WEAC reception at the convention and only about 25 people were there....BUT he also says that he's proud to support education and that the Dem party has always supported working people (teachers included)......

Interview is over.....

conclusion

Mehrens is a Repub asshole...

Weneke is better than I thought he would be.....he has a backbone and didn't back down....

and Ben Merens was a bit over the top. Either he was playing a really good devils advocate or he drank too much Kool-Aid before the show. I think the latter.

Weneke did a good job defending himself.
