Great LTTE from my local Paper slamming TABOR!

FROM ELIZABETH KOBUS

UW-Marinette Student Senator

The proposed Wisconsin state legislation, AJR 55, the Taxpayers Bill of Rights, or TABOR, is a threat to every Wisconsin citizen. It will eventually cripple important public services and education by ratcheting away funding to programs working families depend on.

What is TABOR? TABOR is a constitutional amendment and is modeled after Colorado's similar amendment in 1992. TABOR would cap increases in taxes and government spending at current levels. This cap would be indexed to inflation and population growth. Tax increases and spending would have to be approved with a public referendum. Any taxes collected above the revenue allowed would then be refunded to taxpayers. There would also be a provision for a required "rainy day" fund in case of an emergency need for funding. In order for TABOR to pass, it would have to pass in two legislative sessions and be approved by a public referendum.

Sounds good, right? Wrong. Ever heard of too good to be true? According to the Bell Policy Center in Denver, here are some of the things TABOR has done to the state of Colorado:

n Colorado's bond rating was downgraded and there were severe cuts in public programs.

n In 2000, Colorado was ranked at 50th in K-12 spending per $1,000 of personal income and spent less than most other states on public health resulting in being among the lowest among states in high school graduation rates.

3. I had a student give a great speech against TBOR
in one of my classes this week. It's encouraging to hear the "yutes" speak out on this terrible idea.

My SO sent a really good one in and I have seen several others since the first of April. We have to keep beating this into the heads of the sheeple. I have yet to see a good TABOR article published by a newspaper in this state that points out the flaws and its deleterious effects on states that have enacted it.

My local two-faced slimeball Assemblyman, Scott Suder, Reptile, was pushing this hard, even claimed he was a co-sponsor, until he started hearing backtalk. Now he's dancing around it and mincing his words. Hopefully his recent enlistment (political ploy) into the Air National Guard will land his ass in Iraq before he can vote on it.

6. Yea, Suder is to Gard as Clarence Thomas is to Scalia
I'm sure if Gard stopped quick, they'd have to call surgeons. They even look alike - twin skeezebags. It's quite creepy.

8. I understand. moderator I am aware of this rule....
The problem is that the website of this newspaper tends not to keep their articles up for very long. Some may go within days. This may have changed with the redesign of their website, but I was going on the assumption that they still do not keep atricles and LTTES up for very long. This is why I posted the entire article.
