1. Via email from Renew Milwaukee...
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sunday, November 14, 2010

MILWAUKEE COUNTY NEEDS JON RICHARDS - NOT TOM AMENT

There has been much talk of former Milwaukee County Executive Tom Ament interested in becoming Milwaukee’s next County Executive. Ament resigned in 2002 as County Executive under a cloud of scandal because of changes the Milwaukee County made to its employee pension plan under Ament.

Milwaukee County needs State Representative Jon Richards and not Tom Ament.

Renew Milwaukee is calling upon Representative Richards to run for County Executive. We believe he will move Milwaukee County forward. We also believe that Representative Richards will bring accountability and transparency to county government. Milwaukee must have a County Executive that will lead this county into the future must first restore our county’s good name, restore the ethics in public service and restore our working opportunities by putting forth an environment for job creation.

We cannot afford another four years of failed leadership. This is the time we must move forward.

State Representative Jon Richards has fought hard since being elected to the State Assembly in 1998 to protect the values and interests of the people of Milwaukee and the State of Wisconsin. Representative Richards is a strong leader that Milwaukee County needs because it’s time for a new direction.

2. Not going to happen
It seems Renew Milwaukee needs to find another candidate. Part of a statement from Jon Richards:

“I want to thank the many in Milwaukee County who have asked me to consider running for the office of County Executive, and to lead the fight for change the county needs for a stronger future. Their confidence in me is something I take to heart. But those who know me know that my family comes first. I have decided against running for Milwaukee County Executive, as it would not be the right decision at this stage in my family's life.

4. More possibilities
Former state Rep. Sheldon Wasserman, who narrowly lost to Sen. Alberta Darling in 2008, said today that he is seriously thinking about running for the seat that will soon be vacated by Governor-elect Scott Walker. . . . Right now, Wasserman suggested there is only one obstacle to his jumping into the contest: "I like practicing medicine."

Others expressing an interest or touted by supporters for the post include Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr.; county Parks Director Sue Black; former County Executive F. Thomas Ament; County Clerk Joseph Czarnezki; County Treasurer Dan Diliberti; and county supervisors Lee Holloway, John Weishan, Marina Dimitrijevic and Johnny Thomas.

State Rep. Jon Richards, a Milwaukee Democrat, withdrew his name from the list of potential candidates earlier this week.

This might be a good idea. He's a very good campaigner.
