I have a case for the Internal Affairs Division of the Green Bay Police
Department and my civil rights were violated. I was arrested and held over the weekend never brought to court, released from jail Monday.
A Green Bay cop threatened to "kick my ass" if he ever saw me in "his" park.
Any civil rights advocates practicing in WI., I've got a case.
PM me for specifics.

1. Watch, they'll have no record that you were in custody.

Welcome to DU, ThomCat. Are you an attorney?
:hi:

5. Sorry, I'm not an attorney.
I decided to keep my soul and went to grad school instead of law school.

2. You can contact the aclu at their website
http://www.aclu.org

Seems to me they even have a list of civil rights lawyers you can find in your area.

I hope you can find someone to help.

6. If I'm not getting too personal
why were you detained? Under what pretense did they hold you before releasing you w/o charging you? Just curious and completely understand if you prefer not to answer at this time.

7. Supposedly I resembled a person that may have done something on

August 31st-this was ridiculous.
I was threatened by a Green Bay Police officer on 9-11-04.
Criminal defense attorneys have advised me to take it to the Internal Affairs Department of the GBPD.
I'm disabled.

8. I am going to make a complaint against the Green Bay Police officer
that threatened me.
I really need a civil rights attorney or organization to help me.
I'm disabled and on SSDI.
This guy said he would kick my ass if he saw me on his patrol.

9. What about Ed Garvey's law office?
They are in Madison, but they might be willing to take you on. Check Anywho.com for Garvey and Stoddard.

I guess ACLU wasn't much help, huh?

There's also http://www.findlaw.com

10. I'm still waiting for a reply, thank you for your suggestions, I'll check
them out, sybylla.

One thing is a fact, most local attorneys won't get involved in law-enforcement civil rights violation cases, and a local attorney has briefed me as to what to expect from the GBPD/IAD-"extreme resistance from the beginning on..."

11. I, too, would expect the worst.
And I understand why local attorneys would be reluctant to take the case on. When all is said and done, they still have to work with the GBPD.

Your best bet is an attorney who specializes in this particular type of case. I hope you get a response soon. In your shoes, I'd not have much patience for delay - especially since you've been threatened. I'd keep hammering them, within reason, until I got a response of some kind.

12. There's gotta be a good civil rights lawyer in Green Bay
Finding a PROSECUTOR that will do their job will be the hard part.

13. Update
Edited on Sat Sep-25-04 07:06 PM by bobthedrummer
I have contacted the GBPD/IAD.

I have contacted the ACLU-there is a 4-6 week intake backlog.

Gingras, Cates & Luebke, S.C. decided not to pursue my case-but they acknowledged my case has merit.

I will be contacting the Wisconsin State Bar Referral Service on Monday.

I appeal to anyone that is a civil rights oriented law student, para-legal, law-enforcement officer, etc. (on up to and including attorneys-at-law) that could give me some advice please PM me.

Bob
