St. Paul police officer from Wisconsin killed in Iraq
A St. Paul, Minn., police officer working for a private security company was killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq on Thursday, his department and the company announced.

Officer Kyle M. Kaszynski, 39, of Elmwood, Wis., was working for Kroll Inc. and was in a convoy that was escorting correctional advisers from Baghdad to Baquba for prison inspections when it was attacked Thursday morning. One other person in his vehicle was killed, and three other passengers were seriously injured.

St. Paul Police Chief John Harrington authorized his officers to wear black mourning bands on their badges. Kaszynski went on leave in October to work for Kroll as part of an international effort to restore police functions in Iraq.

He was a seven-year veteran of the department and is survived by his wife, Kristin, and 2-year-old daughter.

A western Wisconsin community loses a husband and father. Police Officer Kyle Kaszynski was killed in Iraq Thursday. Kaszynski lived in Elmwood with his wife and their baby girl. He was 39. Kaszynski was on leave from the St. Paul Police Department to train police in Iraq. His convoy was attacked Thursday. St. Paul Police Commander Matt Bostrom says, "We are proud of him, absolutely proud to have one of our officers serving over there. But, again, tragic, and our hearts go out to the family. I can't imagine the loss they feel at this time." Kaszynski was a 7-year veteran of the department.
