1. What I heard
His approval ratings are in the 60%'s

He has double-digit leads against both Green and Walker...it's a St Norberts/WPR poll....no links up yet...

13. Spavic and Bice in the Jourtinel had a rundown
of two polls stating this is the real poll, and this is the republican poll. I believe the one they said was the republican poll is the one that was stated in this thread.

7. SV is among the best pollsters in the country.
Its owned and operated by a Republican, but they really show little bias in their polls. The right up there with Mason Dixon.

9. Um, no
From what I recall, Strategic also is one of the largest telemarketing fundraising campaigns for the Republican party. So one division over they are sweeping up the GOP bucks. I wouldn't believe a single one of their polls for nothing.

Side note: While I was jobless, Strategic was hiring for their fundraising dept. and my Food Stamp case worker who happens to be a member of the local Greens, actually told me to apply there and help them fundraise for the Repugs... and he knew me through the Winnebago County Democratic Party...

Sorry man.. I would rather live on the street in a refrigerator box and keep my morals than help out pure evil whose idea of the economy and helping the poor got me in this place to begin with.

Fuck that.

15. I understand that, but judging by their 2004 results.
And some of the polling they did in 2005. They are up there with the likes of SUSA and Mason Dixon. If you want to give the Dem candidate an additional 2% thats fine, but they really are fairly accurate.

16. Sorry, St. Norberts has a reputation in Wisconsin
for fairly accurate, non-partisan polling. The fact that your source differs considerably on a poll conducted at approximately the same time suggests to most of us here that they are not as non-partisan as you'd like to think.

Keep trying to sell it if you wish, but you might as well be rolling a rock up hill.

6. St. Norbert/WPR poll, Doyle ahead of Green and Walker by double-digits
In Governor’s Race Match-Ups, Jim Doyle Leads Over Mark Green by 13% and Over Scott Walker by 15%

If the election for Wisconsin Governor were held today, and the race were between Democrat Jim Doyle and Republican Mark Green as the major party nominees, would you be more likely to vote for Democrat Jim Doyle, Republican Mark Green, or an independent/third party candidate? (ROTATE)

Democrat Jim Doyle 45%

Republican Mark Green 32%

A Third Party or Independent Candidate 10%

Not Sure 13%

Refused <1%

In a different match-up, if the race were between Democrat Jim Doyle and Republican Scott Walker, would you be more likely to vote for Democrat Jim Doyle, Republican Scott Walker, or an independent/third party candidate? (ROTATE)

Democrat Jim Doyle 46%

Republican Scott Walker 31%

Independent/Third Party 9%

Not Sure 14%

Refused <1%

8. Don't forget...
the name recognition factor. Part of Doyle's lead is because he enjoys significantly higher name recognition than Walker or Green. Once things heat up and the TV ads start to fly, Doyle lead is likely to shrink, perhaps significantly.

The problem I see around here is that although every Dem I know will vote for Doyle, many say they won't volunteer or donate. Doyle has alienated much of the activist base, and he may pay a steep price for that.

10. True enough.
I spent weeks doing literature drops and writing letters in his first campaign. I wont be doing that again. After his dismal performance on environmental issues and his partaking in special interests influence, I don't know if I will even vote for him. The only non democratic vote I cast in the last 30 years was for Ralph Nader in 1996.

12. If Doyle wasn't Governor Wisconsin would have
- Photo ID requirement at the polls.
- banned Stem Cell research at UW
- Allowed pharmacists to refuse service AND referral to anyone for any reason
- Hard tax caps for localities

(I'm sure there are more.. help me out here)

14. concealed carry....
skyrocketing tuition at UW institutions
bankrupted public schools
more political corruption uninvestigated
no badgercare
doctors telling lies to women regarding reproductive health
"under God" on every government document
mandatory military service in the Wisconsin National Guard

Okay, the last two I made up but I'm sure by now they would have gotten around to them.

17. shoelace and Sybylla
are right....

and for those reasons, Doyle has earned the right to piss me off a lot. Regardless of what else he may do, he has protected us from unrestrained Republican lunacy. :patriot:

18. He restored the out of state
garbage tipping fee and saved the stewardship fund in his budget changes. But Doyle supported polluting coal-fired plants, Doyle supported the utility industry right to mow down county forests for utility corridors, Doyle supported the anti-conservation, anti-wildlife habitat bill known as the Job Creation Act, and Doyle supported the impacting of the National Scenic Namekagon River by the Arrowhead-Weston transmission line even as he gave a commemorative speech about the late great Gaylord Nelson who had condemned the destructive project. (If you saw that unwieldy sentence somewhere else, I had it in some recent letters to the editor including the Capital Times).

Of course his drive to get rid of Peg Lautenschlager does not help him among many democrats.

20. Last year, I had a chance to speak with Jim when Kerry came to Appleton.
Now, don't get me wrong - I'm not a "lock-step" person, and certainly do not agree with everything Doyle has done. But I spent 10 years out of WI, and wasn't privy to all the shenanigans between 1991-2001.

Basically, I told him "I realize what an awful situation you inherited from the previous leadership. And I know you've had to make some very difficult decisions that have not been popular. But I want to thank you for doing not what was popular, but what is needed to get us back on track. I'm sure that was a hard thing to do, and because of that, I am all the more grateful."

When I moved back in 2001, I can honestly say I didn't recognize the state government that I once admired and supported. I could never understand the appeal of Tommy "the dork" Thompson. And when I learned that McCallum (sp ?) blew the tobacco settlement money just to balance the budget, I was beyond pissed. Talk about a major mis-use of public trust!

I think it took a lot to pull us up out of the pit, and Jim's taken more than his fair share of criticism. I personally think he's done an extraordinary job, considering where he had to start from. I will proudly campaign for him, and do all that I can to see him re-elected. The truth is, Jim Doyle IS good for Wisconsin.
