Is Robert Byrd going to retire in 06...
He seems to be getting pretty damn old.

But, here's a tip for the WV Democratic Party, please, and I mean please, get a pro-life and/or pro-gun, but otherwise progressive democrat for the Senate. I know it might seem hard, but considering the direction that WV is going in, I fear that we could lose this seat.

2. Are you kidding???
Pro life, pro gun???????

What difference would it make if WE lost the seat? Do you think Joe Manchin is a Dem because he calls himself one? Want to sell GLBT down the Kanawha too?

4. I don't know if he's going to retire, but
he sure as heck won't be getting my vote if he runs in '06. His office is pretty idiotic. I sent letters from HRC's website, and let them know how I felt about the FMA, and the "marriage protection act" here. They voted in favor of these, and I told them I was not happy about it at all. It was very clear how I felt. Do you know what kind of response I recieved back in the mail? (I have similar letters from both Byrd's office, and Capito's office.)

Basically, I got a "thank you for supporting our position". Thanking me, for supporting them for taking away civil rights (or at least preventing certain groups from having them)? I don't think so. If they had an office locally I could walk into, oh yea, I'd shove this letter in thier face and say "do you actually read your mail?!" I am AGAINST what you voted for! Don't thank me! Geeeesh.

Ok, sorry about the rant. It's just that this is my first year as a registered voter, my vote didn't count here in WV, I'm pretty upset. And I hope that I didn't upset anyone with my first post here. I'm really generally a laid back person, but right now, I don't know if I want to scream, or cry, or just ask my dr. for Prozac for the next 4 years.

5. i think he's done
wasn't there something metnioned about retiring from him early? damn i seem to remember somethin' about that.....

what he should do, is run, and *then* retire. what's the procedure for that, appointment by gubna? wonderful, but hopefully manchin would appoint a real democrat, and not a joe manchin one, and come to think of it, a robert byrd dixiesaur one either.

i'll probably be available around then, too :P

7. I think if/when Byrd dies/retires WV Dems should run
A Moderate who is pro-life and pro-gun.That is based on how we are trending politicaly and the fact that i know people who "were" lifelong Dems but are voting more and more for republicans.

9. I completely agree, Kispoko
I don't see the value in trading our rights for votes. I ain't giving up my reproductive rights just to appease those right wingers who are already being pandered to, and in WV, the gun issue is far from dems v. repubs.
