Atmos to donate downtown buildings

01:51 PM CST on Wednesday, February 9, 2005

By DAVE LEVINTHAL / The Dallas Morning News

Dallas Mayor Laura Miller's office confirmed this afternoon that Atmos Energy will donate four little-used downtown buildings to the city, creating possibilities for new development in a largely forgotten section of the city's center.

Atmos, which took control of the TXU Gas complex last year after purchasing TXU Gas, will also announce at a 3 p.m. news conference the donation of an adjacent storage structure, a parking lot more than 19,000 sq. ft. in size and about 3,800 sq. ft. of land, the mayor's office said.

The buildings, along with the storage structure, contain more than 401,000 sq. ft. of space and the complex is valued at slightly less than $6 million, according to the Dallas Central Appraisal District.

I heard on KERA that the city plans to develop them as residential buildings to increase the people living downtown -- their goal is 10,000 people, to have a vibrant downtown.

Cool!

the city of Dallas has never been able to do anything right, and it'll all be on channel 8 news while the rest of the metroplex gets to sigh in relief that, "at least I don't live there"

4. Excuse me?
Hey, Dallas may eff some stuff up at times but it beats the crap out of living in the soul-less Republican sterility of the 'burbs.
