Texas DUers, can you give me a hand?
I need an email from you guys.

As you may know State Representative Joe Driver (R) got caught stealing $64,000 from the taxpayers by double dipping. He has plead guilty to abuse of office, a felony. He will be sentenced Dec 19th. (details here http://www.bayareahouston.net/2011/11/state-rep-joe-dri... )

The Judge does not have to agree to the recommended sentence on Dec 19th which is 5 years probation and pay back the money to his campaign (not to the state) He will be able to use that money to pay his attorney. He also will keep his job, and his $57,000/year pension, and health care for the rest of his life. And after 5 years he is felony free.

Could you please send an email to the judge calling for a more severe sentence, something you and I, the average citizen would get if we stole from the State:

The Honorable Karen Sage
Blackwell-Thurman Criminal Justice Center
509 West 11th, 8th floor
Austin, Texas 78701
Phone: (512) 854-9442
Fax: (512) 854-6494
Email: 299threset@co.travis.tx.us
Mailing address:

I have suggested that he get 10 years probation, a $150,000 fine, and pay back the $64,000 to the State.

1. Great idea John
Absolutely we should act to have this man treated as any other criminal would be treated in the State of Texas. He is not above the law and should not be treated as privileged just because we was a legislator.

5. A review of double dipping Joe Driver's crime
From the Dallas Morning News 8/16/11

State Rep. Joe Driver of Garland double-billed for travel
The veteran Republican legislator, faced with findings from an investigation by The Associated Press, acknowledged in an interview that for years he has been submitting the same receipts - for luxury hotels, airline tickets, meals, fees and incidentals - to both his campaign and to the Texas House. He has also been collecting thousands of dollars in state mileage reimbursements for travel in vehicles for which his campaign has shelled out more than $100,000 since 2000.
