1. Interesting that you would link
... the HCP in connection with the Occupy Houston event.

I've met a couple of their members, by the way. Frankly, the Socialists are a little more organized locally; they have a mayoral candidate, Amanda Ulman. These links are from 2009 but she's on the ballot again this November.

http://texasliberal.wordpress.com/2009/09/23/amanda-ulman-socialist-candidate-for-mayor-of-houston-should-run-a-serious-campaign-or-not-run-at-all/

Anyway, you'll find many more Greens and progressive Democrats and independents there on Wednesday than you will Socialists and Communists. Probably even more Blue Dogs. Maybe even a few Republicans (NOT there to counter-protest, either). Just sayin'.

I'll be down there some. (But I'm kinda hard to slot these days.)

2. I'm in the suburbs -
not familiar with your mayoral candidates (we don't get socialists, communists or even greens out here - we get Ron Paul).

But that's fine - I'm interested in anyone resisting (including Repubs). I'd be more enthusiastic if there were some unions involved but we'll see who shows up. I'll be there at some point to check it out.

3. Not an organizer but a supporter and attendee
Folks in my office are taking "early lunches," and there are several of them, surprisingly, from both sides of the political spectrum.

The last time, it was just the anti-Halliburton folks in my office, and we got this for a treat outside the Four Seasons Hotel.

4. Went to those too
That may have been the one where the HPD Equine Patrol led their horses into the protestors on the sidewalk -- they later claimed they were blocking the parking garage entrance -- and a horse stepped on a woman's foot, shattering it along with her ankle.

Here's video from 2008 (NSFW due to cursing on audio):

Here's a written account of a different (yet similar) action in 2005:

5. The horses were pushing everyone awy
It was pretty wild. I won't be able to stay long in the morning on Thursday, but plan to stay for the 7:00 p.m. part of the get-togehter.

I'm bringing some peeps.

8. Local media coverage
http://blog.chron.com/newswatch/2011/10/protesters-target-bank-city-hall-in-houston-this-morning/

I'm in photo #9.

Best coverage was by KTRK (video and 79 photos and raw video from the chopper):

http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news/local&id=8381027

They interviewed me but I didn't make the video edit. Same for FOX 26 (local affiliate). Also interviewed by radio and Bloomberg.com. My crowd estimate was, needless to say, much larger than 200.

More pictures of yours truly at my Facebook page.

9. I've been watching the FB page for updates - even 300 is inspiring to me.
Living out here in Pearland it is getting better, but still very red (especially south of here in the rural areas).
