Quorum Report: HARRIS AND DALLAS REPUBLICANS, YOU HAVE A PROBLEM.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO! HERE WE GO TEXAS DEMS!!!!!!!

November 15, 2004 3:24 PM

MASSET: HARRIS AND DALLAS REPUBLICANS, YOU HAVE A PROBLEM.

Regular contributor Royal Masset slices and dices the election numbers and comes up with an "ineluctable" conclusion

Republicans could lose control of Dallas County in the next 4 to 8 years.
Democrats will likely take over Harris County within the next 8 to 12 years. Ed Sills had it exactly right in his QR column last week when he said one bright spot for Democrats was their ascendancy in urban areas. Republicans will keep building strength in all the non-urban areas of Texas. But for the first time Democrats have a lit road ahead if they are smart enough to follow it.

This column draws heavily from a report I did for Chief Justice Phillips dated January 27, 2003. Material from that study will be in "quotes." He asked me to do an objective study of the changing partisan makeup of district Judges in Dallas County and to project what that makeup would be in the future.

My conclusion in the Phillips study was that "The evidence strongly supports the conclusion that Republican judicial candidates will start losing races in Dallas in 2004 and Harris in 2008. In Dallas, all other factors being equal, the average Democrat judicial candidate at the state district court level will receive more votes than the Republican in 2008. In
Houston I believe the best evidence shows that the average Democrat judicial candidate will receive more votes than the Republican in 2012."

1. Best damn news I've heard this morning
I know that the Democrats should take the urban city areas, so to see Dallas Co. and Harris Co. not be blue, was making me blue. So finally some good news, the Texas Democrats will take control of this state. We just need to keep working all year long. More registrations, more database building, more community outreach.

We can do this folks. And if you live out in those areas please come to DemocracyFest 2005 in Austin. We need everyone on board to keep the good work up.

Thank you crispini for the good morning story! :)

2. In Dallas County this year
we elected three Dem judges. Which means three incumbent Rep judges lost their spots (they were ALL Rep, I believe). They were Don Adams (these are the Dems who won), Lorraine Raggio and Dennise Garcia.

Also we have Lupe Valdez now for sherrif. A Dem.

Keep going Dallas County, we need more Dem judges next time.

3. I have a new theory.
You know how there's the pendulum between liberal and conservative? Historically how it goes back and forth? Well, my theory is, we've been red for sooooo long down here in Texas, we will be one of the first states to go back blue.

And, IMO, we'll do it with populist-style politicians like Van Os. :D
