Dallas Democrats pass resolution thanking outgoing elections administrator

Dallas County Democrats on Tuesday night approved a resolution thanking former Elections Administrator Bruce Sherbet for his nearly 24 years of service.

"The precinct chairs, many of them who have been election judges, just wanted to thank Bruce for his service," said Dallas County Democratic Party Chairwoman Darlene Ewing.

Two weeks ago, when it was clear that Sherbet was resigning under pressure from two of the county's most powerful Democrats, local Republicans approved a similar resolution.

crispini, TexasThoughtCriminal, and I were at the meeting last night. crispini offered one of the resolutions, which became a friendly amendment to a similar resolution offered by Tom Blackwell. I spoke out against what I considered "Chicago-style politics" surrounding the ouster of Sherbet. There was some heated debate, but we passed the resolution to thank Sherbet with 72% of the vote.

He will be dearly missed.
