Here's a tidbit regarding Sex Ed in school:
Contraception often Missing from Sex Education

While nearly all U.S. teens report receiving sex education, only about two-thirds have learned about birth control. A recent study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that most (96 to 97 percent) of teens reported receiving formal sex education, but only 62 percent of males and 70 percent of females received education about methods of birth control. The data were from a representative national survey (the 2006-2008 National Survey of Family Growth) of teens ages 15-19. In Texas, the 2009 YRBS study revealed that 94 percent of Texas school districts offer Abstinence-Only education or none at all. In addition, over half of Texas high school students reported that they have had sex.

Read the national study at www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/databriefs/db44.htm. Access the Texas report at http://apps.nccd.cdc.gov/youthonline/App/Results.aspx?LID=TX.

Texas Forgoes Federal Funds for Comprehensive Sex Ed
At the end of the summer, Texas quietly opted to forgo yet another pot of federal money — specifically, $4.4 million that would have gone toward educating youth on abstinence and contraception to prevent teen pregnancy.

The Department of State Health Services began drafting the application for the Personal Responsibility Education Program funds, but the decision was made not apply before the Aug. 30 deadline. Carrie Williams, a spokeswoman for DSHS said, "The Executive Commissioner made the final decision, and the governor's office was part of that discussion."

"This is yet another example of politics dominating policy in the governor's office," said state Rep. Mike Villarreal, D-San Antonio. "Unfortunately, the governor's re-election campaign theme of running against Washington has, yet again, hampered our ability to access much needed funds to overcome very real challenges that our state is facing."

Translation from your survey link and the stupid policies Perry puts in place - thousands of more unplanned teenage pregnancies!u

Perry - stupid is as stupid does. :grr:

2. Soo, the hypocrite better known as Perry declines money...
for sex education, but was willing to mandate that our daughters take the gardasil vaccine which primarily comes from having sex??? Ohhhh, I get it now... Slick Rick was going to get a kick-back from his gardasil pharmaceutical buddies, but not so much from the federal money. This a** wipe needs to be ran out of town as quickly as possible.

5. Not surprising... uggg
Texas has been on a fast track going backwards. Abstinence-only has been proven to be ineffective by itself. We are in desperate need for new leadership.
