1. Why is the right so enamored of repealing the Jones Act?
It is freeper spin that this is preventing international ships from helping in the Gulf oil crisis.

In reality, the Jones Act has yet to be an issue in the response efforts. The Deepwater Horizon response team reported in a June 15 press release that there are 15 foreign flagged ships currently participating in the oil spill cleanup. None of them needed a waiver because the Jones Act does not apply. The Jones Act is a trade and commerce law that was enacted in 1920 as part of a larger Marine Merchant Act. It requires all trade delivered between U.S. ports to be carried in U.S. flagged vessels constructed in the United States and owned by American citizens. The law states its purpose is to develop a merchant marine for national defense and commerce.

I bet if Obama had temporarily repealed the Jones act, the wingers and freepers would complain that he had left the gulf wide open to terrorists and "illegal aliens". They are never going to be happy with anything he does.

Plus these "outside offers of help" come with a huge price tag. They are not offering to come help for free. If the Rs are so serious about creating more jobs in this country they should absolutely make sure those jobs go to American firms and workers. Just saying...

Exploratory Drilling - Oct 2009 to Nov 2009
The Transocean Marianas is set to spud an exploration well at Mississippi Canyon block 252.
Bright Spot - Jun 2008 to Oct 2009
BP Exploration & Production acquired MC 252 at the 3/19/2008 Central GOM Lease Sale #206 with a bid of 34003428.00; Lease expiration 5/31/2018.

THESE GUYS THINK TAX PAYER SHOULD PAY. VOTE THEM OOOUT.
Regarding the gulf oil disaster, I would like to apologize on behalf of the following libertarians:

Congressman Don Young, Republican, AK, "This is not an environmental disaster, and I will say that again and again."

Congressman Joe Barton, Republican, TX, a former oil company executive, called BP the victim of a "$20 billion shakedown." (the fund set up for "making it right" for the Gulf Coast's oil-spill victims)

Senator Michelle Bachman, Republican, MN, "But if I was the head of BP, I would let the signal get out there -- 'We're not going to be chumps, and we're not going to be fleeced.'

Senator wannabe Rand Paul, Republican, SC, “What I don’t like from the president’s administration is this sort of, I’ll put my boot heel on the throat of BP. I think that sounds really un-American in his criticism of business. I’ve heard nothing from BP about not paying for the spill." " ....sometimes accidents happen.”

3. Add Texas Louis Gohmert to the BP apolpgy crew
With video at link:
TX Rep. Gohmert Invokes Hitler in Support of BP - BOR 6/24/10

The loony fringe of the Texas GOP continues to fall all over itself standing by their big sugar daddy, BP. Louie Gohmert took extremism to a new level when he compared President Obama's demand to BP for $20 billion to who else but Hitler.

Is there a head doctor in the house? President Obama's demands for accountability and responsibility from BP seems to have driven the Texas GOP stark raving mad.
