Cong. Burgess is a cowardly piece of shit, and other stories (kind of long_)
The wife and I were watching TV this evening when the phone rang. Melodie answered it and it seemed like it was important, so I turned the TV off.

Apparently we had been given the random honor of listening to Cong. Dr. Burgess's telephone town hall. Melodie was told by the nice lady in the computer that she was in line to ask a question of the Congressman.

First of all, He told us that his office had gotten over 470 calls today and that 500 of them were against the bill (well, more like 430). He sounded very uncomfortable with the format because he kept stammering and going silent. Anyway, every caller in the que ahead of Mel was just so glad to talk to him and express their disgust with the one party tyrany in Washington. After all, these Democrats are trying to take our liberties - the ones given to us by our fondling fathers ... er, founding fathers. (Sorry, I just read the post about Ben Franklin)

The callers asked him about all the lies that they had heard and he just led them on into long tirades about the evils of government run health care - and then they God Blessed him for watching out for our liberties and keeping us safe from the likes of that heathen Nancy Pelosi.

All except one old dude who wanted to know how He had voted on the bill to make sure that TV commercials were not not any louder than the programs (or that heathen Nancy Pelosi) and then this dude said "because they're supposed to be the same loudness.) So He said that it had been a voice vote to the best of His recollection and that He thought he had voted for making sure that the commercials were no louder than the programs (and that heathen Nancy Pelosi).

Now you know that if the advertisers lobby was for being able to have their ads louder - which they were - and they lobbied Him - which they surely did - that there was no way he was going to vote the way He said that He did.

Two faced lying son of a jackal.

All the while Melodie was taking notes and making notes. You see, she teaches American and Texas government a three different colleges in the area (adjunct with no health insurance) She is on my COBRA ins. which is $860 per month (thanks to the stimulus, we only pay $360 per month) In addition to which, she worked for 6 years on the staff of the Energy and Commerce Committee of the House ... and knows a thing or two about what's going on.

She particularly wanted to point out his LIE that the Republicans had never been asked for ideas or anything else, because when the Dem. administration came in they thought they'd just do what ever they damned well pleased. Also, we wanted to mention the hearing in which 3 Health Insurance CEOs had admitted that they had rescinded thousands of policies for the flimsiest of reasons like their insureds not dotting all of the Is and crossing all of the Ts on their apps. At the time he declared that he was shocked and righteously indignant at these CEOs for that. What had happened to that indignation.

Well, to make a long story less long, we never got a chance to speak with him through this miracle of modern communication which was undoubtedly developed by our founding fathers for this very purpose. Then the smarmy lady in the computer came on and said that she could leave a message.

Well, the lovely Melodie didn't miss a beat and hardly paused to take a breath through the length of HER righteous indignation. I wish I had had a recorder. Do you think if we called His office that the lady in the computer would play Mel's message back - probably not. Anyway, it was a marvelous thing to hear.

But she didn't get a chance to God Bless Him.

From my inbox. Watch the video.

I wanted to take a moment to thank you directly for the outstanding work you've been doing as part of Organizing for America's Final March for Reform. I can tell you that your voice is heard in Washington every day. I see how your efforts are moving us toward victory.

But I also know that with just days remaining, the final vote is shaping up to be extremely close. Everything we've worked for is on the line, and your voice is needed now more than ever before.

Raise your voice today: We must all speak out together to finish the job.

In these final, crucial days, much more will be asked of us. Our resolve will be tested.

During moments like this, I believe it's important to remember why we have worked so hard for so long. That's why I spoke to the country Monday at a gathering in Ohio and said it plainly: I'm here for Natoma.

Natoma Canfield is like most of us: She works hard, and tries to do what's right. Years ago, she had battled back from cancer, so she always maintained health insurance in case she ever really needed it again. But because of her medical history, the insurance company kept raising her deductible and her premiums.

Last year alone, Natoma paid over $10,000 in monthly premiums and co-pays, while her insurance company chipped in just $900. And then they hiked up her rates another 40%. She simply couldn't afford it -- she had to cancel her policy. That's when she wrote to me. I read her letter, and shared her story with insurance company CEOs as another reason why the system has to change.

That was two weeks ago. Then, just last week, the unthinkable happened: Natoma collapsed, and was rushed to a hospital. It's leukemia -- the cancer has returned. Now she's in the hospital, worried sick not just about her condition, but how she'll financially survive.

So why am I still in this fight? Simple. I'm here for Natoma.

I'm here because of the countless others who have been denied coverage because of pre-existing conditions. I'm here for the small business owners forced to chose between health care and hiring. I'm here for the folks who are forced to watch helplessly as their premiums skyrocket with no reason or recourse.

And I'm here for my mother. She died of cancer, and in the last six months of her life, I saw her on the phone in her hospital room arguing with insurance companies instead of focusing on getting well and spending time with her family.

As I was finishing my remarks Monday, a woman in the crowd called out, "we need courage." She's right.

The politicians in Washington need courage to face down the powerful interests who have held back progress for far too long. And all of us who share this cause need courage to speak up with persistence and clarity in these final days.

I've always found that courage comes from remembering that we fight for something and someone beyond ourselves. It comes from our faith. And it comes from our commitment to those we love.

So please take a moment to remember those who inspire you -- those who give you the strength to march on.

There's very little time left, and still much to do. But I believe to my core in the power of Americans to change history when we put our mind to it. And if you'll stay with us in these final days, I know we can do it again:

Thank you for making it possible,

President Barack Obama

Good afternoon,

9 -- that's number of states and the District of Columbia where there is still no specific law that makes it illegal for insurers to reject applicants who are survivors of domestic violence by citing the history of domestic violence as a pre-existing condition.1

Unfortunately, the gender inequalities across our broken heath care system don't end there. In many states, insurance companies can still discriminate on the basis of gender -- charging women higher premiums than men simply because of their gender or denying coverage because of so-called "pre-existing conditions" like being pregnant, experiencing a prior pregnancy complication, or having undergone a C-section. And health plans in the individual market often do not cover basic maternity care.

President Obama's proposal for health insurance reform would end the days of discrimination based on gender. Insurance companies would be banned from denying coverage because of a pre-existing condition and would have to cover preventative care like mammograms.

For America's women and families, the time is now for health insurance reform.

9 is the latest number in ‘Health Reform by the Numbers,' our online campaign to raise awareness about why we just can't wait any longer for health insurance reform. Help spread the word by sharing this message with your family, friends and online networks.

Let's get it done.

Nancy-Ann DeParle
Director, White House Office of Health Reform

P.S. Still have questions about what reform means for you and your family? Tune in tonight at 5:15 p.m. EDT and get your questions answered live by HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.
