Kay Bailey Hutchison accepts campaign cash from toll-road builder

AUSTIN – Kay Bailey Hutchison has railed against the Trans-Texas Corridor, but she counts one of the state’s premiere toll-road builders among her major financial contributors.

Bartell Zachry, whose San Antonio-based construction company partnered with the Spanish company Cintra to develop the multi-billion transportation project, gave Hutchison $25,000, according to a campaign finance report filed with the state.

Hutchison campaign spokeswoman Jen Baker said the senator was happy to accept money from the toll-road builder, even though she has denounced the Trans-Texas Corridor as a land grab and has pledged to curb toll-road construction if she's elected governor.

1. She's running the dumbest campaign so far. Not that I care.
Perry is so unpopular that she needs to just stand there and be popular. Instead, she's running very specific issue ads at toll roads and the Trans-Texas Corridor, and leaving herself open to stories like this, as well as the Perry ads rebutting the image she's creating. He runs ads about what legislation she's signed, and soon she's defending her own record instead of taking the lead.

Perry's record on spending and taxes is going to appeal to a lot of Republicans. He had to cut spending because of the budget shortfall Bush left him with. She's playing to his strengths. I know you are supposed to attack your opponent's strenths during a campaign, but in this case Perry is already do unpopular she doesn't really have to. She needs to create a positive image of herself as a better, more responsible leader, and just say "Yeah, we both want to cut taxes, we're Republicans."

Maybe people will get sick of both of them and vote for White.

2. "Maybe people will get sick of both of them and vote for White"
That's our plan. We want the ugliest, meanest and stupidest campaigns by both of them. And they are both doing that "stupid" thing fabulously.

Go Bill White!
