Sharp, White eye Hutchison seat
Democrat eyes Hutchison seat

The last Democrat to win statewide elected office in Texas, former state Comptroller John Sharp, is already announcing his run for GOP Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison's Senate seat.

Hutchison opened an exploratory committee last week in preparation for a gubernatorial bid in 2010, and most operatives expect her to resign her seat before then. If she stepped down from the Senate, an early special election would be held.

Houston Mayor Bill White is another potential Democrat looking at the Senate race.

1. The current state of the Texas Democratic Party can be blamed on White
Edited on Tue Dec-09-08 10:44 PM by Gman
As state chair, after overthrowing Bob Slagle in mid-term, he came in with a blaze of glory and did nothing but pry away the last grasps we had on state offices. White had no clue what he was doing, but by golly, he was chair of the TDP. Slagle was a master at recruiting top notch candidates and had a flair for pulling them through to the win in spite of the odds. White would have nothing at all of the hard work it took to run the TDP. He came down from DC afer serving as an under-secretary in the Clinton administration and thinking he was owed the world. He was also responsible for funneling untolds millions out of Texas to the Clinton campaign. By the time White left, the party was in complete chaos with no direction or leadership. The party has yet to recover.

I will do everything in my power including letting everyone know what the guy did to the party to keep this guy from beating John Sharp in the primary.
