(Dallas County) Voters OK $747M for new Parkland hospital
Thank you, Dallas County voters!!

Dallas County voters Tuesday overwhelmingly approved replacing 54-year-old Parkland Memorial Hospital with a larger, modern facility.

The $747 million bond election will cover about 60 percent of the cost of a new $1.3 billion public hospital. The 862-bed facility will be constructed across Harry Hines Boulevard from the current 675-bed hospital.

"This is the first public hospital to be built based on the size of the need and not the size of the political will," he said.

(snip)
The bond election represents the first time in 28 years the hospital district has asked voters to fund a construction project. About $500 million of the cost will come from private donations and revenues the hospital has on hand.

2. About time
The last time I went to Parkland was to take my mother (friend actually) to the ER. She's wheel chair bound and my own legs are all but useless so the walk/push from the front door to the ER was quite a long grunting adventure. When we got there the wait was something to behold and then once seen we sat in a confined area all day and night and then I had to move the car clear to the other side where the ER entrance is supposed to be and that turned into another hour long hike just to find the ER much less get to it. Then once released finding the car was another less than pleasing adventure.
That building needs torn down and rebuilt...period. In the ER (which is below every other level) the roof leaks! I hope and pray it doesn't come from the actual roof being the ER is 9-12 floors under other floors, but there is definitely water coming from above in many places.
Give the pukes time and I'm sure they'll come up with an excuse to divert the money to erect more bronze statues of horsies all over Irving.
