Heads up. Tropical depression formed in Gulf of MX, heading
west towards Houston. That explains this sunny day in Houston today that all the overpaid weathermen predicted. :eyes:

1. we all just got out of the pool and it's raining like mad right now
I think this storm and the tropical storm are 2 different things.

2. Could be; CNN did show shoots coming out of the depression
aimed at us. I don't know. Wasn't it supposed to be a gorgeous day?
And yes, my DH just confirmed that one has nothing to do with the other.

Looks like LA coast is under a tropical storm watch now, which is means they should be feeling it within 24 hrs.

3. I'm not wishing for a hurricane, of course
or even a tropical storm like Allison, but we could use inches and inches of rain. We have the water running constantly just to water the foundation so that it (hopefully) won't crack - the grass more than 10 feet or so from the house is pretty much crispy. Last time it was anywhere near this bad, there was a small grass fire a few houses down.

5. Tonight, tomorrow, and through Tuesday
Forecasters say a tropical storm warning has been issued for parts of the Louisiana coast as a tropical depression formed in the Gulf of Mexico.

The models bring the system near to the Houston metro area by Tuesday morning. Although the depression now appears somewhat ragged, it could become a tropical storm tonight or early tomorrow, with further strengthening possible.

Meanwhile, Houston and much of southeast Texas are under a severe thunderstorm watch until 8 p.m. today.

The season's fifth tropical depression has formed in the Gulf, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Now that the depression has a center of circulation we need to follow it closely, as the models still bring the system very near to the Houston metro area by Tuesday morning. Although the depression now appears somewhat ragged, my guess is that it will become a tropical storm some time tonight or early tomorrow, with further strengthening possible.

8. Texas City got a nice little rainstorm this morning, but we still need more.
I wish it would stay a storm, but some predictions are it to quickly strengthen to a hurricane.

I just filled up my tank and picked up batteries and water, just in case.

10. We rode out Alicia here...
and I got minimal damage from Rita. I feel pretty safe here. I'll stay for up to a medium cat 2. Anything higher, and I hit the road.

And I picked up some extra tuna for the kitties. I am sure we'll be fine. I liek a good storm now and then, and they've been too few and too far between lately.
