Problems with early voting in Houston

(anyone else encounter problems? leave a comment, so we are all better aware, thanks - promoted by mariochampion)

How, and to whom, do we report voting problems?

Yesterday morning at 9:00 am, my father-in-law, a lifelong Republican, went to vote for Obama in Houston, in Precinct 0493, at the Altharetta Yeargin Art Museum. He had a newly issued voter registration card, which he reports had not yet been used in any election. He reports that he was told he was a registered Republican and had to vote in a specific area of the building. When he got to the poll, it of course had Republican presidential candidates and thus he could not vote for Obama.

We do not know if this happened to other voters at that location or whether it was an isolated event/mistake. But we lost a vote for Obama.

Can someone from Houston volunteer to go to that location to observe? How else can we proceed?

1. I would call somebody in Paul Bettencourt's office.
They should be informed of this incident so that the poll workers can be given the correct information as to voters being able to vote for the party of their choice, regardless of past voter history. Your father-in-law should have asked to speak to the chief judge at that polling place to get things worked out. The whole problem could have been worked out in short order.

I voted over at Bear Creek this morning, and encountered no problems.

2. Tell your father to go back and say BULLSHIT Texans do not register by party.
When you vote you get your I name marked in the book as a D or an R this is to apportion delegates in the next election cycle. Take your video camera down and get some statements from people this is happening to. Call your local Democratic Party office and hopefully they will be able to help.

3. He's not my dad; I found this piece at an Obama website which
is linked in the OP.

4. Exactly
Those are just poorly trained poll workers.

Plus a complaint should be filed with the SOS. (Secretary of State). These incidents should be logged.
